OEM Windows Embedded OS on Dell Branded 12G & 13G Hardware (non-OEM)

DBE install on System Board Replacements

Dell branded 12G and 13G products can be sold with the Dell branded Embedded OS, DBE,
(Microsoft Embedded Windows Server 2012 Standard Edition and Microsoft® Windows
Server® 2008 R2 Standard Edition (R2SE). Dell branded 12 & 13G products with DBE will
include the following skus:

Example ABU skus:

611-BBBK No Operating System for Use With Embedded OS only

325-BBJM Brand MOD for Dell Branded 13G, required with embedded OS only
618-BBGB Microsoft Embedded Windows Server 2012, Standard Edition, 5CAL, DAO
(License sku will vary dependent on the # of CALs sold).

Dell Services must ensure the Dell Branded Embedded ID Module (DBE IDM) must be
reloaded if the OS needs to be reinstalled or if there is a System Board replacement.

In case of OS reinstall, the customer is responsible for providing a Recovery DVD (R-DVD) that
includes the image for reinstall.

When a customer calls into Dell support with an issue that would require a system board
replacement, the Agent will need to verify the OS type sold by looking at the Line Item list in
Delta or by running DSET or OS Collector/TSR:
1. The Agent can first confirm the OS in Delta (CRM) by looking up the Service tag and then
looking at the Line item tab. This will show the Embedded OS skus tied to the server order.

2. Example of OS sold for DBE in Delta:

3. The Customer or agent can also run DSET or OS Collector/TSR that will also show the OS
that is loaded on the servers.

4. Dell Support Agents, when a System board is dispatched and the original system has the
Microsoft Embedded Windows Server OS, note in the dispatch comments to the DSP that the
Dell Branded Embedded ID Module (DBE IDM) must be reloaded if the OS needs to be
reinstalled or is there is a System Board replacement.

5. Example of DSET showing Microsoft Embedded Windows Server OS: Dell OSE string in
System Model for Embedded OS – DELLOE & DELLOSE indicates the Windows Embedded
OS is installed
6. Example of OS Collector/TSR showing Microsoft Embedded Windows Server
OS: (System Model for Embedded OS – DELLOE & DELLOSE indicates the Windows
Embedded OS is installed)

Note: Different Types of IDM’s

1) OEM Ready (OEMR) ID Module (IDM)

a. Debranded BIOS, Lifecycle and iDRAC with embedded SLP.
b. Downloadable from support.dell.com

2) Dell Branded Embedded (DBE) IDM

a. Dell Branded BIOS, Lifecycle and iDRAC with embedded SLP
b. Downloadable from support.dell.com

3) Custom
a. Can be rebranding with BIOS changes and customer owned SLP.
b. Customer owned. Must be provided to the DSP when they arrive otherwise the
customer is responsible for loading. DSP should load the OEMR or DBE IDM at
a minimum.
c. In the event of a MB replacement the DSP must install the OEMR IDM or DBE
IDM downloadable from support.dell.com at a minimum.
d. If not done the embedded OS will give a message that it isn’t activated. (“Not a
Genuine copy of Windows XXX”)

• If the OEM has a custom IDM they are responsible for providing the file to the DSP when
they arrive.

• All warranty MB’s ship in a unlocked state so when the OEMR IDM is applied the
embedded SLP is injected into the SLIC table activating the embedded OS.
When replacing a System Board on a Dell Branded 12 & 13G systems with Microsoft Embedded
Windows OS, Services must ensure the Dell Branded Embedded ID Module (DBE IDM) must
