As student athletes, coaches make up a big part of our careers.

Not only do our 

coaches teach us about our sport, but life lessons like leadership, teamwork, and 
accountability. These lessons stay with us for life, even after our time in the sport 
is over. In our high school careers we were lucky to have many great coaches. 
When we began writing this speech we realized how great of an impact these 
people have had on us. We also realized we never thanked them properly for 
everything they have done. 

Thank you for pushing us to be the best people we could be. Not only did you 
want us to succeed in every sport, but in life as well. There were countless times 
where we have made mistakes and you were there helping us work through them 
and we have become better people because of the kindness and compassion you 
have shown us through some of the most difficult times of our lives. This is a 
lesson we will carry with us forever, and look back on as we continue our careers.  

The long lasting memories we have made that we will treasure forever and have 
shaped our lives mean the world to us. Our cross country runs, math adventures, 
and constant conversations about everything from our crazy family members to 
Hallies “your mom” jokes these have been some of the most fun experiences in 
our lives and we appreciate that you have been able to help create those 
memories.  

Thank you for teaching us more than just the sport. Thank you for being more 
than just a coach, or a teacher. Thank you for being a person we can go to in any 
situation or just wanting to talk. Someone we can count on. You taught us how to 
be a leader, how to be organized, and to be on time. Not only did these lessons 
help me in the season, but have affected my life. These qualities are all things 
that I pride myself on and I trace my learning back to the sport. 

Thank you for being a role model for me. Not only during the season, but 
everyday. Even now I still think about advice you have given me in the past, and 
what you would say to me now. One day we hope to be half of the coach you are 
and inspire and support other athletes like you have inspired and supported us.
