CHANGE THE WORLD

ONE CORAL AT A TIME

WHY DO WE NEED CORAL REEFS?

FIGHTING CLIMATE CHANGE

Coral reefs absorb C02 from the atmosphere
and make it into the oxygen we breath. They
regulate the air and water tempature.

COASTAL PROTECTION
Coral reefs protect our coastlines from big
waves, erosion, and storms. 97% of the
energy from big waves is absorbed by coral
reefs.

VALUEABLE SERVICES
They provide services valued at 10 trillion
per year such as food resources, tourism,
coastal protection, and climate mitigation.

SUPPORTING LIVELIHOODS
500 million people depend on the coral
reefs for food, resources, and income.
Especially in places such as the French
Polynesia.

RICH ECOSYSTEMS
Even though coral reefs make up a small
percent of the ocean, they provide habitat
for 25% of marine species.

2050
If something is not done, all coral reefs will be dead by the year 2050
