Activity 1

1. What is lyric poetry?


 A lyric poem or lyrical poem in literature is a poem in which the poet either expresses his
feelings and emotions. The poet also presents a character in the first person to express his
emotions. It is a combination of lyric and poetry where a piece of poetry is written as a lyric.
Lyric has been derived from lyre, a musical stringed instrument used during the Grecian
period to accompany the poetry sung during different festivities.
2. What are its characteristics?
 A lyric poetry consists of rhythms and rhyme schemes and meters
 Short and expresses feelings of the author itself
 Examples are sonnets, ode and elegy

3. Example.

My Captain does not answer, his lips are pale and still,

My father does not feel my arm, he has no pulse nor will,

The ship is anchor’d safe and sound, its voyage closed and done,

From fearful trip the victor ship comes in with object won;

Analysis:

O! Captain, my Captain! is an elegy written by Walt Whitman to honor Abraham Lincoln, the

16 President of the United States of America. The excerpt above was very emotional itself. The speaker
was speaking to his deceased captain, saying that they have won the journey and the fearful trip was
finally over.

Activity 2

1. What is narrative poetry?


 A narrative poem in literature is a poem which tells a story. It has a full storyline with all the
elements of a traditional story. These elements include
characters, plot, conflict and resolution, setting and action. Although a narrative poem does
not need a rhyming pattern, it is a metered poem with clear objectives to reach a
specific audience. These poems have been borrowed from oral poetic narratives from
different cultures. Narrative poems include old epics, lays and ballads.
2. What are its characteristics?
 A narrative poem contains a formal meter and rhyme structure
 Uses symbolism and alliteration throughout the poem
 Epics are examples of narrative poem
3. What is the difference between lyric and narrative poetry?
 Lyrical poems shows more emotion than the narrative poem
 Lyrical poems uses descriptive speeches to modify the feeling or setting in the poem
 Narrative poems do not rhyme while lyrical poems do rhymes
 Narrative poems are longer than lyrical poems

1. What are your thoughts on angelus?


 Angelus is a prayer that tells the story of the incarnation. This prayer often prayed in
monasteries. This prayer is usually prayed during noon
2. What is this prayer all about?
 This prayer is all about recalling Jesus’s Incarnation as the Word entered the World.
3. Write the script of the angelus.
V. The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary.
R. And she conceived of the Holy Spirit.
    Hail Mary, full of grace,
    The Lord is with Thee;
    Blessed art thou among women,
    And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
    Holy Mary, Mother of God,

Incarnation of Christ Thy Son was made known by the message of an angel, may by His
Passion and Cross be brought to the glory of His Resurrection. Through the same Christ
Our Lord. Amen.
4. Write your reaction about it and how it makes you feel.
 The prayer Angelus is a solemn prayer. When praying this prayer it feels like you’re
surrounded with silence. The words brought warm on your shoulders. Reciting this prayer
can enlighten the heavy burden in your heart

Activity 4

1. What are your insights on the excerpt in slide 18?


 The excerpt tells us that when praying the Angelus, your body was resting in peace and
the force inside your body becomes weaker and weaker. The burden inside you becomes
lighter and purer. Your soul was being raised like the fountains and the stars.
2. What is this force being talked about?
 The force that was stated in the excerpt was the roses that were falling from above. When
the Angelus started ringing, more roses were falling and each of them differ in colors;
blue, white and colorless.
3. Read about the Angelus, and write your own interpretation of it.
 My own interpretation of the Angelus is that whenever we render this prayer, our soul
shall be raised into heaven. More graces from God will be given and it will be
distinguishable like those of the roses which differ from the color. Our sins will be
forgiven for the hands of the Lord will lift up our soul. Everyone will be saved.

Activity 6

1. Why couldn’t the fox play with the prince?


 The fox couldn’t play with the prince, for the prince needs to go back to his planet (B612)
to take care his rose.
2. What definition of the word ‘tame’ did the fox give? Do you agree with the definition?
 The fox defines the word ‘tame’ as ‘to never leave nor neglect him. What the fox sees in
the word taming means bond. A bond between him and the prince.
 No. The prince has its own home and he needs to return to his own planet, but that
doesn’t mean that the prince have forgotten their friendship with the fox. I believe that
friendship doesn’t measure on how close you are. Friendship can extend a hundred miles.
3. Was the way to tame somebody apply to people too?
 No
4. What made the rose owned by the prince important to him?
 The rose told the prince that she is the only one rose in the whole world. The time they
spent together was precious.
5. What secret did the fox reveal? Do you agree with it? Explain.
 It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.
 Yes, the most valuable things are love, trust, and friendship. These cannot be seen in our
naked eye, for you can only feel it. These valuable things are important in our life. These
things can only made up the true meaning of life. Knowing the importance of these
valuable things can make you live your life fruitfully.
6. What lesson on establishing true and lasting ties is taught in the story?
 Bond, friendship, and the importance of the people around must be cherished because,
time flies way too fast. We should value these even more before they gone.

Activity 7

Planning Imaginary Voyages

Ever since I was a kid, planning to travel on my own was the greatest achievement in my life. I
believe that if you want to obtain that achievement. You must work hard. However, walking through that
path was never easy. You need to pass a lot of obstacles. I always imagine myself walking through the
streets of France and sipping a cup of tea in New York. There was one time I took a liking in most
masterpieces coming from the museum. That day, I imagine myself staring on those masterpieces hung on
the wall in one. I always wanted to plan to travel on my own, but since I was born in a the slums, I have
to do my best to make my plan work.
