Determination in SAP EWM

Every Distribution Centre, Where the goods arrive at or leave the warehouse from a location called Door. The interim storage used to unload
goods until they are put away in the inbound process or goods are staged until they are loaded to a truck in outbound process. So integration with
delivery processing is necessary using staging area and door determination. This document will help you to understand, in SAP EWM how
staging area and door determination automatically runs when you create or change outbound delivery order or inbound delivery.

Vehicles and their transportation units (TUs) drive up to the doors of a warehouse to load or unload goods there. The doors are in close proximity
to the relevant staging areas.

Staging areas are used for the interim storage of goods in the warehouse. They are located in close proximity to the doors assigned to them. You
can define staging areas for different purposes and even simultaneously for multiple purposes.

In delivery processing, the SAP EWM system uses determination rules to determine the following for each delivery item:

Staging area groups

Staging areas
Staging bays
Doors

SAP EWM application needs staging areas, staging area groups, and staging bays for storage control.

Staging area and door determination runs automatically in the background when you create or change a delivery (outbound delivery order or
inbound delivery) in Extended Warehouse Management (EWM).In the outbound delivery process, it runs after route determination since the route
influences the determination of staging areas and doors.

Route determination in SCM is very big area and it’s not possible to explain in this post.
We can look at in another blog post.Now we can see how door and staging determined.

If we take outbound delivery order, where the route determination happen first and then Door and stag determines. We first understand in brief
how route determine. For every customer or ship-to-party we define shipping condition in the system or we select shipping condition in sale order
and then ERP delivery creates and distributed to EWM, here in EWM, we see Route determined with proper means of transport for outbound
delivery order. The Route determination is based on Leg, request type and transportation groups assigned for customer with stop sequence
assigned. So route determination is important for ODO to determine Door and stagbay.
So we take business scenario where we had two customer orders picked and going to same route but one customer stop at first and second
customer next.

Before we go configurations, we first understand how this was determined at outbound delivery assuming that all master data of route and stage
out maintained.

See below ODO’s are created in EWM and in the back ground route and door &staging area are determined.

Now we go backwards and see what Master data we had in the system.

1st Master data is Route and see all the tabs how route can be determined with respect to ship condition, request type for each customer with
sequence
2nd Masterdata is with reference to each route and warehouse process type what are the stag data we assigned
.

From the above business scenario we could see customer specific staging bin determined with sequence. Now we can see all the configurations
and master data required for door and stag determination.

For Stag and Door determination see below prerequisites:

You have defined staging area/door determination groups in Customizing for EWM under Master Data Staging Areas.

· You have defined doors and assigned staging areas and staging area/door determination groups to these doors in Customizing
for EWM under Master Data Warehouse Door.

You should not specify a staging area or a door as the destination storage type/destination storage bin when defining the warehouse process
type for the delivery in Customizing for

In order that the system can perform staging area and door determination in the background, you must define determination rules. When doing
this, you first specify which values the system is to compare with the values in the delivery:

Inbound delivery process: Warehouse process type and staging area/door determination groups

Outbound delivery process: Routes, departure calendar, staging area/door determination groups, and destination sequence numbers

To define the determination rules for staging area and door determination, on the SAP Easy Access screen, choose Extended Warehouse
Management Settings Shipping and Receiving Staging Area and Door Determination (Inbound) or Staging Area and Door Determination
(Outbound).

Configurations:
SAP SCM – IMG > Extended Warehouse Management> Master Data > Define Storage Types.
Each Staging area that will be used is defined as a Storage Type. These Storage Types have storage type role = I and D . The difference
between the two is there will be additional steps performed in these staging areas (like Loading) it is a suggested that these be defined as work
centres. The External Step for these Storage Type is configured as STAG. For Details you can see my previous blog on Process/Layout Layout

SAP SCM – IMG > Extended Warehouse Management>Master Data >Staging Area >Define Staging Area

Staging areas are storage sections that fall within a storage type with role ‘D’. Staging areas are used to provide interim storage for goods after
unloading or before loading. During loading, the sequence of the bins in the staging area can be used as a loading sequence. In the staging area
definition, you select whether the staging area is for use in Goods Issue or Goods Receipt process. You also define the loading Rule.

The standard Action Profile, /SCWM/DOOR has been used for all doors.

SAP SCM – IMG >Extended Warehouse Management> Master Data > Warehouse Door > Assign Staging Area/Door Determination Group to
Door.

In this IMG activity, you define which staging area groups/door determination groups are permitted for a warehouse door. You can use this, for
example, to separately control warehouse doors with bulk material and warehouse doors with palleted goods.

Using this you make the assignment between staging areas and doors. These assignments are the basis for the determination rules (staging
area, group, and door) in the delivery.

Easy Access Master Data

SAP MENU > Extended Warehouse Management > Master Data > Source Bin à /SCWM/LS01
In order to define a new staging area, go to Transaction /SCWM/LS01 and create a new bin under the relevant staging area (Storage
Type). After creating the storage bin, please ensure you run the following transaction on the relevant Activity Areas changed. /SCWM/SBST –
Sort Storage Bins

SAP MENU > Extended Warehouse Management>Settings à Shipping and Receiving à /SCWM/STADET_OUT – Staging Area and Door
Determination (Outbound)

Using this activity, you assign Staging Areas and Doors to a Route and Warehouse Process Type associated with that Route. Using this, you can
segregate where orders belonging to separate routes will be staged in the warehouse.
The sequence No from and Sequence Number to fields help in directing the HU’s to a customer specific bin on the floor. The Seqence No. from
and Seqence No. to Corresponds to a stop (a stop contains the Location (Ship-To) for the route in question) on the route.

SAP MENU > Extended Warehouse Management> Settings à Shipping and Receiving à /SCWM/STADET_ASS – Access Sequence to Staging
Areas and Door Determination.
Using this activity, you assign the access sequence number for the Staging Area determination for Inbound or Outbound Activities. You can
choose the key fields that will be used for determination of an access sequence.

With this above master data and configurations we should get stagbay and door for the ODO line and this will be further used to storage control
for LOAD work step.

So in distribution centers the staging areas will drive the goods to right ship lane and dock spots to further prepare pallets and load into truck.
