GISC9315 CAD AND GIS - DELIVERABLE 2

Introduction
This task fills in as a prologue to the utilization of Autodesk’s AutoCAD Map 3D to Highlight Sources. This
contains the creation and improvement of AutoCAD Map 3D drawing and utilizing sources. AutoCAD
Map 3D code provides access to GIS and mapping information to support designing the data as well as
the information management. CAD tools assist you to use specific standards. the combination of GIS
information helps to enhance quality, productivity, and quality management. The principle motivation
behind this Deliverable is

• To gain a basic practical familiarity with Using Raster Images

• To gain a basic practical familiarity with Connecting to Features
• To gain a basic practical familiarity with Styling Images
• And to publish a Map Book

I have referred the Terms of reference document posted by my Instructor Miss. Keochanh. On Niagara
College Blackboard for this Deliverable. (Keochanh)

Methodology
As per given in the TOR of this Deliverable below are the files that I have used as a raw data for this
assignment.

• REDDING_CA.dem
• Roads.sdf
• Map2d.dwt
• Map Book 8.5 x 11 Classic.dwt

All the files mentioned above can be opened using Autodesk AutoCAD Map 3D. The coordinates system
assigned for all the files is NAD27 California State Planes, Zone 1(401). All the above-mentioned file are
downloaded from the Niagara College Blackboard.

At first, I created the map using map3d.dwt template as given in the TOR. (Keochanh) and then working
on it as per the steps provided in the TOR document.

Figure 1: REDDING_CA1.DEM

After giving the coordinate system to the map I added raster source REDDING_CA1.DEM to my
workspace. After this I opened styles for this data and selected theme for this data. While selecting the
theme I also put the Minimum Height as 100 and Maximum height as default value 604. This helps
highlight the data with different elevation to understand more about the Land elevation. The color of
theme changes according to the height of the landscape. The places with higher number to the places
with lowest elevation have different shades of colour to make them more prominent to spot. (Ellis &
Martin, 2019)

I created the contour for the polylines and used the interval of 4 as it was mentioned in the TOR. To
show the different line with different contour I have changed their thickness. After this I did Hill shade
Analysis with the help of AutoCAD Map 3D – Hillshade Function.

Figure 3:Final Image after running Hillshade, Elevation contouring and styling

As we can see in the Figure 3 the final output after the whole process gives us the map that shows
elevation as well as the contours of the land.

Figure 4:Roads.sdf

After this I Draped the Roads vector file on my output from the raster layer by connecting the Roads.sdf
file. After draping both the layers on each other I Stylize the road to make them stand out. The major
roads such as ST_Type : ART, HWY, FWY, COL which are visible from 3000 to infinity scale were given
thickness to make them easily visible. I labelled the Street Names for the roads that are below 3000 in
context to the map size from the table ST_Name. I positioned the names appropriately. The ST_TYPE:
LOCAL, PVT ROAD, ART, HWY, FWY, COL were named using their data from column ST_Name.

Figure 6: Zoomed in image to showing the road names

After this Map I created the map books to highlight different areas of the map I have created using MAP
Book 8”x11” Classic template. I gave suitable name to the map book. And changed the scale as 3000 into
the settings. I chose ‘By Area’ Styling scheme to create this map. I selected Columns and rows naming
scheme and started the column with 1 and incremented them by 1. (Ellis & Martin, 2019)

Figure 7:Naming scheme used for the Mapbook

In key section I selected layers and I kept legend as none. In sheet set I selected ‘Create New’. I avoided
all the blank sheets. After this I generated the Map Book.

Conclusion and Findings

The Hill shade with a nice theme and contours can help you spot the different elevations at different
points of the land. By changing the styles of polylines, we can make them more visible or can make them
easy to differentiate from the data that has different values.

In the final output I got Total 15 Sheets that are named from A-15 to D-35. All these sheets focus on
different part of the map and highlight the given grids in that area. The map book divides this map into
multiple “tiles”, and it displays each tile on a separate sheet. It divides the map into different grids. Each
section of this grid highlights different part of the map. We can publish the whole map or any selected
part of the map by using the map book sheets. The map book sheets make even the smallest details of
the map easy to spot. Which helps to analyze the data.
