Introduction
To undertake a spatial analysis, using ArcGIS, for several wineries in the Town of Niagara-On-
The-Lake, and report upon the findings of this analysis.
Purpose
To undertake a full project using ESRI’s ArcGIS
Background
The data that was used in the project is extracted from the Niagara Winery database that was
created using access. To make sure the locations of the wineries are accurate we visited the sites
and took UTM co-ordinates for all the Wineries in Niagara- Peninsula Region.
The pictures of Winery were clicked by different group members and then the co-ordinates were
fetched from the metadata.
This data was then added into the Access database that also consists of the other information
about the wineries such as types of wines available, price per bottle, website and other
information related to the wineries.
After we created a geodatabase and imported all the data from the Niagara Winery table to create
the map that shows the different winery locations.
Methodology
This Deliverable uses the data related to Wineries in Niagara Region and how the
chemicals that are produced by those wineries can affect the water near in the Niagara Region.
I have used ArcMap and Arc Map Pro to create and publish the maps.
First, I created the geodatabase and imported the data into it from the Winery database
that was posted in the raw data file for the deliverable 3. After importing the data from the
database, I Connected the table by the fields that were present in each table. Few tables had 1-
1 and few tables had 1 to many connectivity. Then I Exported the UTM coordinates from the
Location Table from the Database.
When I was done with the Geodatabase, I Create metadata for the newly created
personal geodatabase using ArcCatalog. Then I Imported the National Topographic Database
Series (NTDBS) Single Line Road Network (SLRN), Tiles 30M03 and 30M06 data into the
geodatabase. I did some conversions for these data, as they are not projected data, but
Geographic Coordinate Systems (NAD27) shape files.
I took buffer analysis from the search panel and did buffer analysis to check the
buffering of winery features by wine type produced. The chemicals that are used to
create the various wine types require varying chemical additives. The additives all have
differing probabilities of migrating off site to contaminate nearby waters. I have added
the buffer layer as mentioned below:
Rose Wine: 2.5 KMs
White Wine: 1.6 KMs
Red Wine: 0.5 KMs
After this I Created the buffer analysis for the hydrological features to show how much
the contamination can spread by using buffer analysis. To show the intersection between the
two buffer layers I used the Intersection Analysis. This analysis highlights the part of the two-
buffer analysis for wine as well and the hydrological features.

Conclusion
This states that places where the water sources and wineries are meeting have more chances of
having contaminated water.
