Here’s the interview:
1. You have achieved a top rank
in CLAT 2015. How does it feel?
To tell you the truth it was
completely unexpected. I knew I
wrote my CLAT well but an AIR 15
was beyond my wildest dreams. I'm
not your typical academically inclined
teenager for who an All India Rank is
child's play. Yes I study but I also
have other interests such as music,
basketball and of course talking non
stop with friends. So I had to do a
balancing act and in the getting a
good rank was the icing on the cake.
Unlike many others, I'm not going to
tell you I studied for so many hours a
day because most of us can't study
that long. All I'm going to say is that
when I prepped for the CLAT I did it
with my heart and soul and with the
strong feeling that law is the only
thing that I ever wanted to do. I
loved everything that I studied for
CLAT as well. I found it challenging
and far cry from the monotonous life
of textbooks and syllabus bound
exams that you lead in twelfth grade.

2. What / Who inspired you to
consider law as a career option?
I love talking. I love debating. I love
books. I love research, innovation
and just learning random new things.
I found that studying law had a close
connect with everything I loved. So
law was my natural choice. No one in
my family is a lawyer so I didn't have
any particular inspirations and was in
open territory. If I finish this section
without saying I was inspired by Suits
or Boston Legal to some extent then I
would be lying. But as you will realize
once you get into law school,
American TV shows are the worst
inspirations to have. A small warning:
Do not intend on doing law just
because of some movie or show you
watched. In reality it's way different.
3. Describe the role played by
Sriram Law Academy in your
success.
My time at Sriram was a fantastic
experience! Over the two years I
spent at Sriram, my love for the law
increased manifold and now I'm
extremely glad to be at NLSIU or as
they call it - The Mecca of Law or the
Harvard of the east.
The Sriram material complemented
the fantastic teaching and helped us
in our preparation at home. I
especially found the legal reasoning
modules extremely useful with the
questions closely resembling the
CLAT pattern. Moreover the time
spent at class was truly an
enlightening way to spend my
Sundays with some of the best
faculty and brightest students. Both
the classroom and online mocks were
useful, but in my opinion I found the
online mocks all the more productive.
This was probably because I was
more well prepared and also because
I got to compare my performance
with students all over the country.
4. How did you manage to tackle
"negative marking" in CLAT?
The key to negative marking is to not
get intimidated by it. Don't think of

negative marking a lot and scare
yourself to death. Just focus on your
prep, study well and results will
follow, negative markings or not.
5. GK is a vast area. Given that
you had to work on both Current
Affairs and Static GK, how did
you go about it?
I'm a newspaper addict. So current
affairs wasn't much of an issue. I
actually enjoyed current affairs and
as you progress in your prep you will
realize that current affairs is the
section you can score most in and
one of the easiest. It requires very
less thinking. For static GK I
depended entirely on the Sriram GK
module and I also went through all
the static GK questions in the model
papers.
6. Would you like to share some
tips with our students who are
gearing up for the 2015
examination?
My advice is quite simple. Love and
dream. Do law only if you love what
you propose to do and dream of
becoming a lawyer. Law school is a
killer and you will have to work
around 18 to 20 hours a day from
day 1. It may seem that once you get
into a top notch law school, all is
done. But no. Your journey starts
there. Unless you have a true passion
for the law, law school will literally
eat you up. A law degree in reality is
more difficult than an engineering or
a medicine degree. But if you are up
for the challenge, then law school will
be a truly blissful experience as it will
open the doors to so many
opportunities you wouldn't have ever
dreamed of!

1. You have achieved a top rank
in CLAT 2015. How does it feel?
Thank you. Honestly, I feel more
relieved than anything else. Though
scores are the culmination of one's
hard work and preparation, this
year's paper was especially
challenging and I wasn't sure that I
would clear it successfully. This has
given me confidence and the
motivation to work even harder as
this is just the precursor to my
journey in law school.
2. What / Who inspired you to
consider law as a career option?
The books that I've read throughout
childhood created a positive
association with lawyers in my mind.
In real life, I have always admired
human rights lawyers for their service
to peace and mankind. Fortunately,
my family encouraged me to pursue a
course I'd feel passionate about. I
assessed my strengths, abilities,
interests and found the study of law
to be a suitable medium. My family

3. Describe the role played by
Sriram Law Academy in your
success.
Sriram Law Academy came highly
recommended to me by my seniors,
so I joined the TargetEdge program
in 12th. The material was
comprehensive yet printed in a
manner that didn't tire me. Static GK
which requires the most effort was
made easy as the potential answers
were always made bold. The weekly
exercises of 20 minutes helped me
keep in touch with CLAT prep when
busy with school. The coverage of
topics was very well planned and the
questions were very unique. I was
very grateful for the answer key to
past university papers of NLSIU
4. How did you manage to tackle
"negative marking" in CLAT?
Negative marking shouldn't be feared
if you are adequately prepared,
and/or take the effort to fully read a
question before solving it. If a
question was entirely foreign and I
had no clue of it, I skipped it. GK and
critical reasoning is tricky. If I could
narrow the answer down between
two options, I attempted it.
Sometimes you have a gut-feeling or
hunch about the answer, which could
be because you know the answer at
the back of your mind. I risked
solving such questions.
5. GK is a vast area. Given that
you had to work on both Current
Affairs and Static GK, how did
you go about it?

Truly, General Knowledge and
Current Affairs took me more time
than the rest of the subjects
combined. I started to memorize
some Static GK in my 11th but it was
a wasted effort because I couldn't
remember it a year later. So I began
learning lists now and then in my
spare time, and revising them every
couple of months. I could commence
with serious studying only after my
boards, in April. In the week before
CLAT I was solving at least 500 MCQs
of static GK/day. I started preparing
the Current Affairs bit in 2014 itself
and revised it before every mock, to
familiarize myself with the points.
6. Would you like to share some
tips with our students who are
gearing up for the 2015
examination?
CLAT is unpredictable and requires
your Perspiration, Patience
and Perseverance. It is essential that
you try to cover all your basics and
not just focus on your strengths.
Solve mocks. Increase your speed.
Analyze those mocks. Diversify your
sources. Do not lose hope. You can
very well manage both your 12th
studies and CLAT by prioritizing the
right material at the right time. And
most importantly - stay cool in those
120 minutes that decide your score.
