Hamilton: An American musical

Hamilton Musical is a musical about the life of the American Founding Father Alexander
Hamilton, with music, lyrics, and book by Lin-Manuel Miranda. The show, inspired by the 2004
biography Alexander Hamilton by historian Ron Chernow, achieved both critical acclaim and box
office success.
The musical made its Off-Broadway debut at The Public Theater in February 2015, where its
engagement was sold out. The show transferred to Broadway in August 2015 at the Richard
Rodgers Theatre. On Broadway, it received enthusiastic critical reception and unprecedented
advance box office sales. In 2016, Hamilton received a record-setting 16 Tony nominations,
winning 11, including Best Musical, and was also the recipient of the 2016 Grammy Award for Best
Musical Theater Album and the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The prior Off-Broadway production
of Hamilton won the 2015 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Musical as well as seven other
Drama Desk Awards out of 14 total nominated categories.
Ben Brantley, jurnalist from New York Times claimed it is ,,A show about young rebels
grabbing and shaping the future of an unformed country, “Hamilton” is making its own resonant
history by changing the language of musicals. And it does so by insisting that the forms of song
most frequently heard on pop radio stations in recent years — rap, hip-hop, R&B ballads — have
both the narrative force and the emotional interiority.[..] “Hamilton” makes us feel the unstoppable,
urgent rhythm of a nation being born.”

London Olympics

London hosted the Olympic Games in 1908, 1948 and 2012. The 2012 Summer Olympics
made London the first city to have hosted the modern Games of three Olympiads.
The London 2012 Games were centred around the Olympic Park in east London, which is the
site of a number of new sports venues. Up to 180,000 spectators a day entered the Park to enjoy the
Games, making it the principal focus of Olympic activity.
The main venues – the Olympic Stadium, Aquatics Centre, Velodrome and BMX Circuit, as
well as the hockey, handball and basketball arenas – were easily accessible through a network of
footbridges and walkways within the Park.
The Olympic Village was within walking distance of all the venues in the Park, enhancing the
experience for athletes and officials. The use of other prestigious venues – such as Wembley
Stadium for football, the All-England Club in Wimbledon for tennis, Lord’s Cricket Ground for
archery and Horse Guards Parade for beach volleyball – was also a feature of the London 2012
Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The London 2012 Games included a four-year Cultural Olympiad. It reached a climax with
the Olympic Games Opening Ceremony on 27 July 2012, starting a 60-day festival of sport and
culture across the UK, as the Olympic and Paralympic spirit crosses the world once again.
