My goal is to engage in professional research that will contribute to national development. I will
explore uses of modern technology and geographic data in multi-disciplinary research teams to
proffer solutions to problems in my community. Through the GIS program at the University of
Leeds, I will learn core skills I need to achieve this goal. The program consists of core modules
in Data visualization and Analysis, and programming, that will help me better under how to
extract information from geographic data, present information through various medium for
different audiences and automate these processes. I will also learn how to apply these skills for
specific applications like the Urban Environment and platforms like web-based GIS to harnesses
the power of the internet to provide more efficient ways of working with geographic data.

During my program, I will focus on avenues to study cases similar to development issues in
Nigeria. To this effect my study will be focused on using GIS technology and methods to
understand the environment. I will explore its use to assess economic growth, sustainable social
development, and environmental sustainability in cities and communities.

The University of Leeds is a world class institution renowned for its global research agendas
and attracts bright people with diverse professional and cultural backgrounds. This award will
give me an opportunity to learn from a global perspective and interact with students, teachers
and professionals, greatly enhancing my exposure.

In the years following the award, my priority is to contribute through research activities to proffer
solutions in my community. I plan to explore the use of Big data, Artificial intelligence, Machine
learning and geo-computation techniques to take advantage of the data boom available to have
a better understanding of these problems. I will concentrate on research activity geared towards
Sustainable Cities and communities, and
