A few comments on Lyon Bid for
ICSB 2019…

Grégoire Altan-Bonnet, March 17, 2016, 1:43 p.m. : «The strength of

the organizing team in the field of Systems Biology, the central
position of Lyon, as well as the potential interactions with the
biopharmaceutical industry make for ideal conditions to make the
ICSB a very succesful conference. »

Vito Quaranta, March 18, 2016, 7:06 p.m. : «The strong

mathematical biology community in Lyon and France will be a
reliable backbone for this conference. The city is also an ideal location
for his position and hospitality (not to mention the andouillette...).»

David Suter, March 17, 2016, 4:13 p.m. : «I am very enthusiastic about
having a major systems biology conference in Lyon, which is a fantastic
place - both scientifically and non-scientifically.»

Thomas Höfer, March 17, 2016, 1:48 p.m. : «Both the city and the
lively bioscience scene in Lyon are excellent choices for hosting this
major meeting.»

Christian Landry, March 16, 2016, 2:05 p.m. : «Lyon is a great city for
meetings. It is easy to get to, a beautiful venue such that people will
want to come.»

David Fell, March 22, 2016, 12:31 a.m. : «Lyon is an attractive city,
with excellent food and wine and a good public transport system. It's
a good conference venue.»

3 auditoriums for plenary session:

• Auditorium «Pasteur»: 300 seats

• Auditorium «Lumière»: 900 seats
• The Amphithéâtre: 3200 seats

• 26 rooms from 50 to 450 seats for

meetings

An environmentally responsive Centre,
from its conception to its operation
The Cité Internationale district is part of a sustainable
development programme:

• Use of rainwater with implementation of a centralized watering

system.
• Environmental management scheme of the city’s green spaces:
the first French green spaces service to obtain the ISO 14001
(2005) certification.
• Latest generation bus lines, silent and clean, 6 bike-sharing
stations.

The Lyon Convention Centre: facilities and operations are focused

on sustainable development.

The facilities:

• Rainwater recovery by the 2,000 m2 of non-watered vegetal

gardens, thanks to a centralized watering system.
• Use of underground seepage water for building heating and
cooling.
• 96m² of solar panels generating 15,000 kWh, with a
environmental gain of 1,4T / year of CO2.
An environmentally responsive Centre,
from its conception to its operation
daily approach:
• Staff awareness of eco-attitude.
• Preferred utilisation of eco-products (biodegradable or
recyclable products, vegetable-based inks).
• Waste recycling with a managements based on selective
sorting.

Certification:
• Environmentally aware, the GL events group is engaged in a
group-wide sustainable development initiative through the
program Think Green and launched, some years ago, an ISO
14 001 certification process for all its venues in France. The
Lyon Convention Centre obtains the certification in 2013.

Concrete results:
• 25% of energy saving by year thanks to the bioclimatic
control system of the building fronts.
• 70% of the heating and cooling use renewable and clean
energy, thanks to the groundwater located under the
building.
• 46% of waste are recycled.

Lyon Renaissance District

This Renaissance district, listed by UNESCO, is the largest area of its
kind in France. It consists of 3 separate villages: St Georges to the
South, St Paul to the North-East, and St Jean in the middle. The area
mainly became a town in itself during the 15th and 16th centuries. A
tour enables you to see Saint Jean Cathedral, and then the district
itself with its narrow streets, inner courtyards and "Traboules”.

Enter the world of Silk through “Traboules” passageways

Lyon is the capital of silk weaving in France. You will discover the
“Traboules” (passageways) winding down the hill of the Croix-Rousse
where 30.000 silk weavers used to live in the 19th century. At the silk
printing workshop, printers will demonstrate Lyon’s traditional know
how.

Fourvière’s church: a major building of Lyon heritage

Built between 1872 and 1896, by the architects Pierre Bossan and
