Table Tiles

1. Maria makes tables with square tops. She sticks tiles to the top of each table.

The sizes of the square tabletops are all multiples of 10 cm. Maria only uses
quarter tiles in the corners and half tiles along the edges of the table.
Maria uses three types of tiles:

Here is one tabletop:

This square tabletop uses: 5 whole tiles, 4 half tiles, 4 quarter tiles.
1) How many tiles of each type will she need for a 40 cm by 40 cm square?
2) Describe a method for calculating how many tiles of each type Maria
needs for larger square tabletops.

Combining Inequalities

Some treasure has been buried at a point (x,y) on the grid, where x and y are
whole numbers. Here are three clues to help you find the treasure:
Clue 1: x > 2 Clue 2: x + y < 8 Clue 3: 2y - x ≥ 0
1) Which of the following points could be a possible location for the
treasure? The points must satisfy all three clues. Circle the answers you
choose.
(3,2) (2,3) (5,3) (3, 5) (4,3) (5, 2)
2) On the grid show all the possible places the treasure could be located.
3) Here are two more clues:
Clue 4: y > x - 4 Clue 5: y < x – 1
Which clue doesn’t help at all? Explain why.
At which point is the treasure located?

Buses cut corners…beware!

3.

1) Use the diagram to show that x 2−2 xy+ w2 =0

2) Let w = 10 feet and r = 17 feet
(a) Figure out how much the rear wheel cuts into the cycle lane.
(b) Figure out how far the front wheel must be from the outside edge of
the cycle lane for the rear wheel not to cut into the cycle lane.

Ferris Wheel

4. A Ferris wheel is 60 meters in diameter and rotates once every four

minutes. The center axle of the Ferris wheel is 40 meters from the
ground.
1) Using the axes below, sketch a graph to show how the height of a
passenger will vary with time. Assume that the wheel starts rotating
when the passenger is at the bottom.
2) A mathematical model for this motion is given by the formula:
h = a + b cos ct
where h = the height of the car in meters
t = the time that has elapsed in minutes.
a, b, c are constants.
Find values for a, b and c that will model this situation.

Jawaban : penilaian gambar diatas tidak pernah benar karena trapesium berukuran
sembarang. Namun jika trapesium sama kaki akan selalu benar.
Jawaban yang benar: pernyataan akan selalu benar. Luar trapesium yaitu

Jawaban yang benar: pernyataan akan selalu benar

Card Set A: Always, Sometimes, or Never True

8.
(a) Area akan lebih kecil adalah pernyataan yang selalu benar
(b) Keliling akan diperkecil adalah selalu benar berdasarkan teorema
bahwa a+b=c
9.

Running Times
1. Look carefully at the coach’s results.
Use the data to make a case for why he should not enter Sally into the race.
2. Use the data to make a case for why he should not enter Mary into the race.

Throwing a Coin
Colin and Rajinara are designing a game to raise money for charity. It costs
20¢ to play. They have made a game board that consists of a square grid
with squares of side 40mm. They have also agreed on the basic rules of the
game.

Colin and Rajinara disagree on some of the other design features of the
game:

The diameter of a quarter is 24 mm and the diameter of a 50-cent piece is 31

mm.
1. Which coin is most likely to win a prize? Why is this?
2. Colin and Rajinara want to work out which game design will raise the
most money for charity. Describe carefully how they could do a simple
experiment to find out. In your description, explain how they can:
 estimate the probabilities that each coin will win;
 use these probabilities to estimate which game design will raise the
most money.
Make up some data if this helps you to explain what to do.
3. How could you calculate the probabilities that each coin will win a prize,
without doing an experiment? Write down your ideas.

Buying Cars
Bill, Sue and Fred each own a car. Every week, all three drive the same
distance.
1. Which car is the cheapest to run? Explain your answer clearly.
2. They are trying to work out how much fuel they will each save if they
change cars.

Fred is incorrect.
Use mathematics to show why his statement is wrong.
State any assumptions you make and explain your reasoning clearly.
3. Fred wants to buy a new car.
Each week, he wants to save the same amount of fuel as Bill.
What should be the average fuel consumption of Fred's new car?
Explain your reasoning clearly.
1. Seorang pasien dirumah sakit menerima suntikan penisilin. Tubuh sang pasien
