English Portfolio Activities – Grade X

First Flight

1. A Letter To God – You are God. Write a letter replying to


Lencho.

2. Dust Of Snow – Pictorial Depiction of the poem with a few lines


that highlight the importance of ‘Positive Thinking’.

3. Fire And Ice – Your suggestions to Save the Human Race from
the concern raised by Robert Frost in context to the poem.

4. Nelson Mandela Long Walk to Freedom - India has also fought a


long battle to attain its freedom, highlight this through the story
of any one of the thousands of freedom fighters that fought for
the freedom of our country.

5. Two Stories About Flying: The stories are about the conquest
of fear but they address it differently highlight this difference.

6. A Tiger in the Zoo: Project Tiger, started in 1973, is a major


effort to conserve the tiger and its habitats in India. Through a
choice of your own (poster, poem, slogans, etc.,) design a
campaign that shows your support to the project.

1. A Triumph of Surgery - Elicit ways to promote physical,


emotional, mental and overall wellbeing.

2. The Thief’s Story- Write about the importance of


FORGIVENESS and SECOND CHANCES.

3. The Midnight Visitor: In this story, Ausable shows great


‘presence of mind’ or the ability to think quickly, and act calmly
and wisely, in a situation of danger or surprise. Presence of
mind comes out of a state of mental preparedness. If you have
thought about possible problems or dangers, and about how to
act in such situations, you have a better chance of dealing with
such situations if they do arise. Share your solutions to the
following situations.
1. A small fire starts in your kitchen.
2. A child starts to choke on a piece of food.
3. An electrical appliance starts to hiss and gives out sparks.
4. A bicycle knocks down a pedestrian.
5. It rains continuously for more than 24-hours.
6. A member of your family does not return home at the usual
or expected time.
