SAMPLE CALCULATION FOR RELAY 66

1) Cumulative Time Lim

N=3 t= 2.2 at 80% voltage

Lim= (3-1) * 2.2 + safety margin

=4.4 + safety margin

=5

2) Locked Rotor time

Permissible Stalling time of motor= min 18 sec---- max 60 sec

Motor starting time 1 sec

Permissible stalling time> motor starting time no stalling protection required

3) Counter Red Rate

Motor manufacturer has not given max start per hour. So no of max. consecutive cold start= 3 has been
assumed as max no of start per hour. Starting time is taken as 2.2 S 80 % Voltage

Counter Red Rate = 2.2/1= 2.2 s/hr

RELAY 49 PROTECTION SETTING CALCULATIONS

1. Thermal Restart Value

The startup time is 1 Sec

Time constant start is 180 seconds.
Using the trip curve with no prior load, the operation time at 6 x rated current is 4.6 seconds, one
motor startup uses (1 / 4.6) thermal capacity

Thermal restart level = 100-{( 1*100/4.6)+ 5}= @68 %
