The three teachings what are the forces that shaped Chinese society? How to china view itself and others
in the ancient world to better understand. what you see in china it's useful to know about the country's
three historic schools of thought Confucianism Taoism and Legalism these three teachings are the
bedrock of China's ancient culture and together explain much about what you'll see in that country.
one way to remember the difference between these three teachings is that Confucianism is mainly
concerned with political ideas in social harmony Taoism is mainly concerned about the health of the
human body and Legalism is primarily concerned about psychology and the nature of the mind although
this oversimplifies these three philosophies it does provide a good starting point each of these teachings
also emphasized the opposite of its main focus by this I mean that Confucianism promoted social
harmony by teaching about self cultivation Taoism taught about health by emphasizing harmony with the
natural environment and this focus on following rules and laws and there were strict laws that were used
to control people so he's tended to be harsh laws and you had to follow all of these laws.
Being a Canadian prime minister I believe the Confucianism philosophy should be adopted. Because it
covers and deals with every aspect of life in a moderate manner. For good governance the Confucianism
philosophy says: Good government consists in the ruler being a ruler the minister being a minister the
father being a father and the son being a son. So this means everybody has a role in society and if you
follow that role social harmony will prevail so all that chaos is going on in country will go away if
everybody just follows their role that they have in society and respect for elders and reverence for
ancestors is a huge part of Confucianism the older you are the more respect you should have and there's
ancestor veneration as well having respect for ancestors that came before you. So being the Canadians
prime minister I will create a culture and develop a system that will implement these rules in the society.
so other key aspects include Ren which is kindness and benevolence and this is needed in government
officials Lee is treating others kindly and filial piety as well which means that family members give
deference or kind of defer to the male head the family filial piety is such an important concept it's about
these relationships and the son is below the father and you should respect your elders especially male
elders right the family. Being a Canadian prime minister Confucianism provides me the tools and
guidance to build the best social and educational reforms as Confucianism was concerned with society
and social relations thus Confucius's idea of the way emphasized social harmony. he prescribed that
everyone must assume their rightful place in society according to their ability. Confucianism recognized
that ability cuts across social divisions and classes this led to the development of an examination system.
where theoretically anyone with great ability could obtain a high position in government these
examinations were a regular event those who scored the highest were received by the Emperor himself.
Then like now some exam takers hired others to take the exam for them this old drawing shows the
punishment meted out to some of these cheaters. Confucianism relegated women to secondary status
and was a feudal system but its emphasis on self-improvement and advancement through education
and scholarship was for its age a progressive trend. Confucius emphasized hierarchy and rank and this
has had a great influence in East Asia down to modern times one aspect of this outlook is that the
elderly are highly respected due to their experience. The other two philosophies are also helpful to build
a strong nation. Like Daoism it’s less of a focus on government and worldly Affairs but more on nature
so it's kind of an individual experience and not really worrying about government structure. And it really
advocates living a simple life. Being the Canadian prime minister I will see the legal aspect of Chinese
philosophy like in legalism one is very unlike Confucianism and Daoism and this focus on following
rules and laws. And there were strict laws that were used to control people so he's tended to be harsh laws
and you had to follow all of these laws. And if you don't there would be consequences for that this is a
pessimistic view of humanity and farmers and soldiers were professions that legalism preferred because
