CHAPTER III

METHODOLOGY

This chapter discusses the methods in attaining the objectives of this technical
research paper. It includes the research design, and the workflow of the methodology.

3.1. Research Design

This research will be conducted theoretically through simulation. The modification
of the component in the exhaust system will be made to ensure that it fits in to the diesel
type engine. After the research, design and data gathering the modified muffler will be
employed to the exhaust system. The modification of muffler will focus on the exhaust
system alone.

3.2. Research Procedure

The methodology of this technical research paper is divided into three parts:

Research design, data gathering, and simulation.

Research Data
Simulation
and Design Gathering

Figure 3.1 Research Procedure flow chart

The research and design involves the improvement in exhaust system and new
components in the exhaust system. After the research and design next is the gathering
of data from the health and environmental institutes. A simulation will be done through
SOLIDWORKS.

The research and design focuses on the improvement exhaust system of a diesel
type engine and the emission & control system. Considering the fumes that a diesel
engine exhaust creates. A research will be done on what are the effects of those fumes.
And research on how to reduce the fumes that affects both human and environment.

Statistical data on the emission of toxic fumes from diesel type engine comparing
it to other types of engine. Health and environmental related data on what are the
effects of toxic fumes from a CI engine.

After research and design and gathering of data a simulation will be done to
determine the modified muffler’s efficiency. The entire exhaust system will be simulated.
