Brief Description of Duties of Administrative Mentor
Charlie Hollerith is the principal at Bloomfield Hills High School and has been an administrator
for 34 years. He leads his staff with honesty and integrity. Charlie is very personable and
welcoming and he emphasizes collaboration and facilitates space and times for teachers to work
together on projects and improvements in teaching practices. He is always looking forward to
new programs and technologies that are on the cutting edge. Charlie posts many of the schools
successes on Twitter, listing accomplishments of students from honor awards to the robotics
team. He makes a point in knowing the achievements and activities of the students and staff at
his school and he displays them proudly. His leadership style inspires others to become their best
as he guides people with kindness and optimism.
Description Environment
Bloomfield Hills School District, located in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, has one main high
school, three middles schools, four K-5 schools, and two preschools. Bloomfield schools serves
approximately 5,785 students. The high school has a principal and three associate principals.
Previously, Bloomfield has two high schools, Andover and Lasher. The renovation of Andover
combined both high schools. Bloomfield Hills High School was finish on September 1, 2015. It
is an International Baccalaureate School. The school’s academic areas are divided into nine
learning communities where English, math, science, and social studies teachers can come
together to integrate and collaborate subjects. The learning communities are set up for 9th and
10th grades, where teachers share in collaborating between curriculums. Teachers share the
classrooms using laptops to access SMART Boards. They have their desks and materials in
collaboration rooms where they work together across curriculums. These learning spaces are
places where teachers share their lessons, their ideas and their lives. Bloomfield has a STEM
program, internship opportunities, and offers classes at the technical center (Oakland Schools
Technical Campus).
