“You cannot give what you do not have.

” This is the line that we often hear especially in

teaching profession. We, teachers need flexibility in whatever tasks would be given to us. If I
would have a chance, what would I prefer to teach?
I came from private school before I was hired as permanent teacher in public. I’ve
taught intermediate grade in private for almost four years. And when I got permanent, our
principal gave me Grade 5 class, so for me it’s only a little adjustment since I have handled
Grade 5 class before, the only difference, I will teach Grade 5 class in public school. Having
expertise in your grade level handled will have big effect on how you can produce best pupils in
a certain class or subject area. That’s why I will choose to teach Grade 4 or 5 pupils as I found it
easier for me because of my experience before. I can still use my strategies and techniques. On
the other hand, I find teaching Grade 1 pupils a challenging one because of the patience needed
to the pupils who are beginners in reading, writing and counting as well as fond of playing
inside the classroom. That’s why I admire those Grade 1 teachers who can manage their class
well.
I think teachers need to be evaluated on what grade level should they be and to what
grade level is their mastery. Because mastery of the class handled will be more of production of
the best pupils they can be in the future.
