Solarization of NUST Main Campus

1. Introduction:
National University of Sciences and Technology is one of the most progressive and
innovative university that was established in 1991 by the Government of Pakistan. Its charter
was granted in 1993. It is located in the Capital City of Pakistan, Islamabad.
The aim of the university is to build a modern excellence for research and development in the
field of science and technology. Structure of NUST revolves around the fields of
engineering, information technology (IT), medical and management sciences.
NUST is a university that is fully committed towards the provision of intellectual leadership,
development of technology in the country and to be a beacon of light for the country’s
progress in science and technology.
During a very short time, NUST has achieved recognition at both National and International
levels. NUST has attained various achievement awards within a decade of its existence. In
2014 the university stood at 129th rank in Asian universities in the field of engineering and
technology as ranked by QS World ranking.
Being one of the most leading university in the technology sector of Pakistan, NUST aims to
take a leading rule towards the utilization of green energy as one of the most economical
source of energy and set a role model for other Pakistani universities/institutions to adopt
green energy which is environmental friendly and cost effective.
Keeping the above in view, NUST aims to convert its main campus (located in Islamabad
sector H-12) into solar powered energy on by using the roof tops of the buildings/institute
located in the main campus.
The buildings that are selected and included in this project for installation of solar power
plant are as follows:

i. School of Civil & Environmental Engineering (SCEE)

ii. NUST School of Business Administration (NSBA)
iii. School of Social Sciences & Humanities (S3H)

2. Purpose/Objective of the Project:

The main objective of this project is the conversion of main campus into solar powered
energy and thus helps us in contributing towards the green energy. The 2nd main objective of
this project is the utilization of renewable energy sources which is a cost effective solution
for the energy for sustainable growth. It will also help us in reducing the emission of
greenhouse gases and thus contributes towards the achievement of sustainable development
goals.
