INSTRUCTIONS: The announcement of approval of President Duterte

of Ferdinand Marcos’ burial in Libingan ng Bayani cemetery revived

the clash between pro and anti-Marcos. Even those who did not
witness the particular event voiced out their opinions. With the advent
of technology, it cannot be denied that social networking sites (SNS)
such as Facebook or Twitter are popular platforms to vent out
opinion.

INSTRUCTIONS: Make your own hashtag describing the Philippine

politics today. Type in an essay with two (2) to three (3) paragraphs to
explain.

Usage of social media platforms has been very useful to our daily
lives. We use it to connect with our friends and know what’s been
happening around us. We also use it for business purposes – we can buy
things we want or need or sell items we can earn from. Social media can
also inspire us to do better base on what we read or see from it such as
arts, well-written articles and inspirational stories and so on.
Nowadays, we can also use our social media platforms to express
ourselves. We could read different points of view from other people and
learn so much from them. Nonetheless, we could talk about politics and
make a fair share of our sentiments to the government’s deeds. Despite
this pandemic, it is very beneficial for us Filipinos that we could point out
everything that we see from the government – may it be good or bad news.
I’d like to tackle one instance from our recent issues such as Koko
Pimentel’s violation of the quarantine protocols. He was well informed
about the law and to emphasize, one of the ‘lawmakers’ that should set an
example to everyone on how to obey the rules that they implemented
themselves. He was aware that he is COVID-19 positive but resorted to
going out and even escorted his wife to the hospital wherein he had put the
people’s lives in danger, not to mention the front liners’. After that situation,
DOJ has stated that we should understand and be compassionate about
him – which showed how justice system works in our country. Selective
injustice is very evident. He has the power and wealth so he can easily get
away with it. But for us ordinary citizens, we might end up going to jail right
away. Point is, we could easily determine the government’s shortcomings
and injustices just by opening our social media accounts and be vigilant.

As a democratic country, it is important to practice our rights as a

Filipino and exercise voicing out our opinions as deemed necessary. We
could always do our research through the internet and social media
anytime and anywhere. “Mas lamang ang may alam.” – a timely and a very
relevant quote that we must always remember.
