“A study on Employee satisfaction on labor welfare measures

in IT industry”
INTRODUCTION

Employee welfare is a term including various services, benefits and facilities offered to
employees by the employers. Welfare measures are inevitable to every organization. An
organization’s responsibility to its employees extends beyond the payment of wages for their
services. The employees‟ safety and welfare on and off the job within the organization is a vital
concern of the employer. Providing a safe and healthy environment is a pre-requisite for any
productive effort. This research deals with the study on the welfare measures provided to the
employees in IT industry.

Employee satisfaction is the terminology used to describe whether employees are happy,
contended and fulfilling their desires and needs at work. Many measures support that employee
satisfaction is a factor in employee motivation, employee goal achievement and positive
employee morale in the work place. Basically Employee satisfaction is a measure of how happy
workers are with their job and working environment. In this paper various variables responsible
for employee satisfaction has been discussed such as Organization development factors, Job
security factors and opportunities which give satisfaction to employees such as Promotion and
career development also has been described .

Many organizations use the concept of employee welfare programmes as a strategy of improving
productivity of employees since work related problems could lead to poor quality of life for
employees and a decline in performance. Welfare activities promote economic development by
increasing efficiency and productivity with the underlying principle being making workers give
their loyal services ungrudgingly in genuine spirit of co-operation.

The purpose of the present study was to see the effect of welfare activities/facilities on job
satisfaction and attitude of workers towards management amongst the workers of private and
public sectors. For this study two hundred workers were selected from private and public sectors
with the help of incidental sampling method and both the sectors have been taken from Kanpur
city. The result shows that if workers are satisfied, their attitude pays a great role in the
development of an organization.

Employees welfare refers to “the efforts made to provide good life worth for employees”.
Organizations provide welfare facilities to their employees to keep their motivation levels high.

The Study on “employee welfare measures” is conducted with the main objective of evaluating
the effectiveness of welfare measures in industrial sector and to suggest measures to make
existing welfare measures much more effective and comprehensive so that the benefits of the
employees will be increased. The study divided the welfare measures into statutory and non-
statutory measures. Statutory Welfare Activities :-Workman’s Compensation, Maternity Benefits
,ESI Benefits, Sickness Benefit ,Safety Measures. Non- Statutory Welfare Activities :- Health
Services, Housing Loans, Recreation Facilities, Transportation

NEED FOR THE STUDY

Employees play an important role in the industrial production of the country. Hence,
organizations have to secure the cooperation of employees in order to increase the production
and to earn higher profits. The cooperation of employees is possible only when they are fully
satisfied with their employer and the working conditions on the job. The welfare measures
provided to the employees need to be satisfactory in order to increase the productivity.

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

 To study the existing welfare facilities provided to the employees.


 To know the employees opinion about the present welfare facilities.
 To study the satisfaction of workers towards the present welfare facilities.

HYPOTHESIS:
Ho: Employees are satisfied on welfare measures.
H1: There is a significant relation between the welfare activities and absenteeism.
H2: There is a positive relation between the employee satisfaction on welfare measures and the
employee commitment to work.
SCOPE OF THE STUDY
This study aims to find out the satisfaction of the employees, whether the organizations are
providing necessary health, safety and welfare measures in IT industry. The scope of the current
study is limited only to IT industries.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Human resources are the most important resources of any organization. Here it is the duty of the
management to look after the welfare measures of the employees. If the employees are satisfied
with the provided welfare measures, the production will increase, healthy industrial relations will
be there and also employees will be highly motivated. The welfare measures of the employee are
essential because of the nature of the industrial system. Today workers are an essential element
contributing to the growth of the organization.

METHODOLOGY

 Sampling design
A sample is a small representation of a large population. The study is based on the data collected
from fifty employees of it industry.
 Source of data
The study included primary as well as secondary data.
o Primary data
The method used to collect primary data was questionnaire method. This
questionnaire aims to gather information related to welfare activities in it industry.
o Secondary data
The secondary data are those data that are already available journals, articles,
websites, library etc.
 Sampling method
The respondents are selected by convenient sampling technique. Accordingly, has selected 30
respondents in the study area.

LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY


 The result also depends upon the integrity of respondents in giving true and fair opinion
and their level of knowledge in the subject under study.
 Inadequacy of time was a major limiting factor
