Artifact 1: News - Unemployment
Citation-

Close Reading- Unemployment rates spiked because workers


were laid off due to Covid 19 precautions to prevent spreading.

Contextualization- Covid 19 is spread person to person


through respiratory droplets. It is easily transmittable, in order
to avoid transmission many businesses closed. As quarantine
progressed more businesses began to fire their works due to
lack of money and resources.

Limits- The text does not disclose which jobs are suffering the
majority of losses due to Covid. Readers will not be able to
understand if people are losing their jobs because they require
contact or other reasons.

Corroboration- According to Forbes thousands of new jobs


were created in response to Covid 19.
Artifact 2: Art - Riot
Citation-

Close Reading- Many americans stormed capitol hill baring


arms to protest government mandated stay at home orders
placed to decrease the spread of covid 19.

Contextualization- Covid 19 is easily transmittable between


people. To decrease the amount of contact between people,
the U.S government mandated civilians must stay in their
homes unless necessary. Some people do not believe in the
virus and do not want to stay in their homes causing them to
protest.

Limits- The image does not allow others to understand the


protestors reasons for being against the stay at home
orders.

Corroboration- Protestors held up signs stating “Covid 19 is


a lie” and “Social distancing is communism.”
Artifact 2: Your Choice - Student response

Close Reading- Students in school are given work to interpret the


issues affecting them taking place in the U.S.

Contextualization- The most prevalent issues affecting most


students during July of 2020 were the BLM movement and Covid
19. This student created a drawing representing the difference
between BLM protestors and stay at home protestors. This shows
how students living in 2020 interpret what occurred in 2020.

Limits- The image does not present information on how school


was accessible during quarantine.
Artifact 3: News - Protest
Citation-

Close Reading- Numerous protest have taken place


worldwide in support of the BLM movement.

Contextualization- Despite the stay at home orders


placed because of covid many protestors risked their lives
to support the BLM movement. Protestors wore masks but
still put themselves at risk because racially inequality is still
a prevalent issue in American society during 2020.

Limits- The video does not disclose the safety measures


protestors took to prevent catching covid.

Corroboration- Over 100 BLM protests took place in the


as of July.
Artifact 5: Government - Stay at Home Order

Close Reading- Maryland issued a stay at home order to


prevent the transmission of covid.

Contextualization- The spread of covid 19 became so severe


the government had to mandate stay at home orders to make
cases decline.

Limits- The order does not show when it was placed. Readers
will not be able to tell how long it took the government to place
stay at home orders after the first recorder Covid cases.

Corroboration- All 50 states had stay at home orders to


prevent covid 19 transmission.
