Mirroring an Assembly

Create the Assembly you want to Mirror.

In this case it is called Right Leg Assy, and consists of Thigh, Leg and Foot.

Create a new assembly from this

Assembly
• From the File Menu, select Make
Assembly from Assembly
• Click on the green tick on the
Begin Assembly dialogue box.
• Using Save As, rename the new
assembly TempAssy. This is just a
temporary assembly used to create the
“mirror”.
• The Design Tree of the New Assembly
should look like this ……..

Create the Mirror Plane

• Use the Reference Geometry command to
create a mirror plane, in this case parallel to the
side of the block.
• Offset the new plane so that when you create the
mirror assembly, the original and mirrored
assemblies are well separated from each other.
Mirror the components
• Start the Mirror Components
command (it may be hidden under
Linear Component Pattern).
• Select the plane you have just created
as the mirror plane, and with the
Components to Mirror box
highlighted, select Right Leg Assy
• Click on the blue “next” button to take you to the
next step of the mirror process.
• On the next box click on the icon beside Create
opposite hand version, then click on the
next button.
• On the next page, make sure Create new
files is selected, and that the Mirror prefix
will be added.
• Click on the green tick to finish the mirror
command
• The Design Tree of the TempAssy should
now include a MirrorComponent line,
under which is MirrorRight Leg Assy.
• You can open this as a separate assembly.
• Note that new files MirrorThigh, MirrorLeg
and MirrorFoot were created.
• If you want to change these parts, it is best
to change the original part (Thigh, etc), and
the change will propagate to the Mirrored
part when you rebuild it.
You can now insert the original Right Leg
Assy, and its mirror into your main
assembly.
