Obligation of Hajj in 9 A.H.

“to Allah from the people is a pilgrimage to the House – for whoever is able to find
thereto a way” [3:97]
Abu Bakr as Hajj deputy.
Prophet (PBUH) declared intention of Hajj as he thought it might be completion of his
mission.
On Prophet’s (PBUH) call, all relatives and groups gathered to perform Hajj.
Everyone started reciting Talbiah:
‘Here I am O Allah, (in response to your call), here I am. Here I am, You have no partner,
here I am. Verily all praise, grace and sovereignty belong to You. You have no partner.’
The Last/Farewell Sermon of Holy Prophet (PBUH).

In the Last Sermon Prophet (PBUH) emphasized on Rights of Women and Slaves.
He negated Racial Prejudice.
Peace was highlighted through these words:
“Your blood, your property and your honor are as sacred as this day, this month and this
city”
Interest was forbidden and emphasized on pillars of Islam.
Allah (SWT) declared the completion of Islam:
“… this day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and
have approved for you Islam as religion…” [05:03]

After leading the funeral prayer, on his way back home he had a headache and was
shifted to Ayesha’s (RA) apartment.
Fell ill in the end of Safar.
Prophet (PBUH) asked Abu Bakr (RA) to lead prayers in last days.
He addressed his companions for the final time:
“Allah has given his servant 2 choices, this world and Hereafter but his servant chose the
latter”
Holy Prophet (PBUH) passed away on 12th of Rabi-ul-Awwal 632 AD.
All of the companions got emotional and could not believe it.
Abu Bakr (RA) delivered a speech and said:
“Whoever used to worship Muhammad (PBUH) let them know that he has passed away
and whoever worshipped the Lord of Muhammad (PBUH), He is Eternal.”
