Final Year of Prophet’s Life

Q (a) Describe the events of the final year of Prophet’s (PBUH) life. [10][N/2013]

 Obligation of Hajj in 9 A.H.

“to Allah from the people is a pilgrimage to the House – for whoever is able to find
thereto a way” [3:97]
 Abu Bakr as Hajj deputy.
 Prophet (PBUH) declared intention of Hajj as he thought it might be completion of his
mission.
 On Prophet’s (PBUH) call, all relatives and groups gathered to perform Hajj.
 Everyone started reciting Talbiah:
 ‘Here I am O Allah, (in response to your call), here I am. Here I am, You have no partner,
here I am. Verily all praise, grace and sovereignty belong to You. You have no partner.’
 The Last/Farewell Sermon of Holy Prophet (PBUH).

 In the Last Sermon Prophet (PBUH) emphasized on Rights of Women and Slaves.
 He negated Racial Prejudice.
 Peace was highlighted through these words:
“Your blood, your property and your honor are as sacred as this day, this month and this
city”
 Interest was forbidden and emphasized on pillars of Islam.
 Allah (SWT) declared the completion of Islam:
“… this day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and
have approved for you Islam as religion…” [05:03]

 After leading the funeral prayer, on his way back home he had a headache and was
shifted to Ayesha’s (RA) apartment.
 Fell ill in the end of Safar.
 Prophet (PBUH) asked Abu Bakr (RA) to lead prayers in last days.
 He addressed his companions for the final time:
“Allah has given his servant 2 choices, this world and Hereafter but his servant chose the
latter”
 Holy Prophet (PBUH) passed away on 12th of Rabi-ul-Awwal 632 AD.
 All of the companions got emotional and could not believe it.
 Abu Bakr (RA) delivered a speech and said:
“Whoever used to worship Muhammad (PBUH) let them know that he has passed away
and whoever worshipped the Lord of Muhammad (PBUH), He is Eternal.”
