Getting to Barovia

The characters are on their way to Daggerford on the sword coast. They’ve been made aware of a
Warewolf problem and have been sent to deal with it. Coming from Waterdeep the player’s are four
day’s travel away from the town of Daggerford when they stumble across some waggon tracks that
lead into the woods and a silver sword on the ground amidst some blood and coin.

Warewolves. Large, terrifying creatures have been plaguing the poor, small town of
Daggerford on the sword coast for the past few weeks now. No one seems to know where
they come from, however some have their suspicions that they come from ‘The misty forest’.
These suspicions lead to the hire of all of you. A band of adventurers who somehow made
your way to Waterdeep and to each other. No one else was brave enough, but with the
promised reward of 5,000 gp, you all decided to forgo your fears and set off. Storm clouds
loom overhead, casting a cold light over the rolling hills all around you while rain pounds as
far as you can see. Being the middle of the year, you’d expect today to be nice - hot and
sunny, but here you are. Stuck in the cold pouring rain with no form of shelter except possibly
the misty treeline to your west - but that does stray from the dirt road - which is almost
flooded by now.

A few hours pass in the pouring rain for you when you stumble across a set of wagon
tracks cut into the dirt that sharply turn away from the dirt road and continue off into the
woods. Whatever was here certainly turned unexpectedly, you suspect as when you draw
closer you see a few objects seemingly flung from wherever the cart was. A longsword lays in
the mud upright, sprinklings of shattered wood and a few copper pieces can also be found
amidst the blood-soaked mud.

The sword is a Silvered longsword left by some Vistani that were unfortunate enough to encounter a
werewolf on their way to daggerford from the mists of Barovia to look for some unsuspecting
victims for their lord - Strahd Von Zarovich. There is 20 cp scattered amidst the mud.

Have the character set up camp for the night in the woods to the west as they are unable to camp in
the open as the rain is too heavy – even with tents.

Deciding to take refuge in the woods from the now torrential rain, you set up camp. The
woods are quiet tonight, cool air blows in from the treeline you face as the air around you
grows chill. Your fire sputters as a low mist gathers around the edges of your camp, growing
closer as the night wears on. By morning the fog hangs thick in the air, turning the trees
around you into grey ghosts. You wake and pack up camp to head back to the dirt road
heading towards Daggerford when you come to the realisation that…these aren’t the same
trees that surrounded you the night before…
