ABSTRACT

A pattern for visual representation of ideas is images. Images are generally captured with the help of cameras.
Moreover, these captured images (video or still) are blurry, noisy and low intensity and many more which vary in
contrast, brightness etc., due to the process of digitization. Image enhancement plays a major role in improving the
quality of the images. In this paper, the proposed approach uses fuzzy concepts on histogram equalized image to
perform image enhancement through which a good refinement of light and dark areas i.e., the contrast levels
refinement of an image can be achieved. In addition to the aforementioned approach wavelet transform has been
used for decomposing the image into required spectral components and further with image conversion technique
best image resolution can be improved. The performance (simulated results) of the proposed approach is high when
compared with the conventional histogram equalization method as quantified in terms of peak signal to noise ratio,
root mean square error and mean square error estimation. The experimental results show that the proposed approach
can enhance the low-contrast images effectively; it not only improves the global brightness and contrast of images
but also preserves details and remove noise.
