The Archdiocesan Institute for Research and Development (AIRD) was tasked to update the
Parish/Shrine/ Chaplaincy/Sanctuary/Chapel Dossier which is an important source of detailed
information on the Parishes.
THE SCOPE
The Archbishop of Manila shares in the Mission of Christ that he fulfills in his ecclesiastical jurisdiction
which is the Archdiocese of Manila while his priests share in the Mission of Christ through him and
fulfill that Mission in the respective parishes where they are assigned. The Mission of Christ has
threefold Ministry: as priest, as prophet and as pastor.
In the present Archdiocese of Manila, the threefold ministry as can be gleaned from its Directory
2017-2018 has taken the form of Services, 1) of the Archdiocesan Offices, which is the Council of
Administrative Affairs, with acronym, CAda, 2) of the Council on Formation for Priests and Lay People,
with acronym, COFORM, and
3) of the Pastoral Secretariat, with acronym, COPA. Aside from the Ministry as Pastor, the COPA takes
care of the Ministry as Priest through the Commission on the Liturgy which serves under it. The CAdA
belongs to the Ministry as Pastor in the area of administration. Ministry as Prophet is under the care
of the COFORM.
The three major services have additional ministries brought about by the increasing demands
of the ministry and special ministries which emerged as responses to the particular needs of the times.
The additional ministries in the case of CAdA are Office for the Promotion of New Evangelization
(OPNE), Engineering and General Services and Information Technology. The special ministries for
example in COPA are: Extraordinary Phenomena; Mission; Pondo ng Pinoy; Sanlakbay.
Hence, for the Archdiocese of Manila, the acronym for the threefold ministry could be: CAdA-
COFORM- COPA. Aside from the threefold ministry, there is also a mandate to form and develop
Basic Ecclesial Communities (BEC) in each parish as a new way of being Church. There is also the
present and urgent challenge of the New Evangelization (NE) in which the Word is brought to the
parishes with new approaches, methods, expressions and fervor. The threefold ministry in the present
form it has taken in the Archdiocese, BEC, and New Evangelization comprise first part of the scope of
the Dossier with this acronym, CAdA-COFORM-COPA: BEC & NEW EVANGELIZATION. The second part
of the scope is the locus of the ministries which includes Parish Demographics, among others.
