The Effect of Coronavirus on E Commerce

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this research is to see the effect of Coronavirus on E commerce in Maharashtra State
and in our country .According to the resources Coronavirus is came from Wuhan city of China country.
By the infection of coronavirus number of peoples is died in the various districts of Maharashtra State
and all over the world. Some of the peoples are Isolated, Home Quarantine during the lockout period
announced by the Prime Minister of India and the Head of various States.
Due to lockdown in metropolitan cities like Mumbai, Pune etc. and issue of social distance (physical
distance), the supply chain of distribution is totally affected. Some of the business is facing the negative
impact of the virus like some retailers have stored the grain and started to sale it at high cost to the
consumers, which has been realised by the Government with the help of public grievances as a shortage
of grain in market. The Government has initiated necessary action against unnecessary stored stock
and allowed to open grain market. As consumer looking to buy more than just daily groceries may be in
for some relief as e commerce .Majors are getting ready to accept and ship orders after the latest
guideline issued by the government but, the deliveries in the Mumbai is tough. The firm’s steps up effort
for sanitisation and health check of delivery personnel to sell food and medical supplies became the
effortless due to shortages of delivery personnel, which lead delay in order shipments. During the last
lockout period of 21 days e commerce loss in gross sale of $1 billion .Amazon ,flipkart and other
marketplaces have refunded money on orders of non-essential .Amazon India has slashed its
marketplace fees by 50% till June 2020 for merchants ,who sold goods worth Rs.10,000 or less before
the virus outbreaks in India.

INTRODUCTION
Now in days, we all know what e commerce is. The term e commerce or electronic commerce is
referring to any sort of business transaction, which involves the transfer of information through the
internet. E commerce means using the transaction and or commercial transaction, which involve
exchange of value in return of product or services. Online shopping is best component of electronic
commerce was invented by Michael Aldrich in UK in 1979. Onward the invention of electronic
commerce, Tim Berners Lee invented the World Wide Web and transformed on academic
telecommunication network into a worldwide everyman everyday communication system called the
internet / www.(dot).Internet became popular worldwide around 1994, when first online shopping
started. Social networking sites like Facebook (dot).com are allowing people to promote and sell
product and services online, with help of e commerce application software like shopify , e commerce
have boomed .Consumers started to give preference to e commerce because of the following
objectives.
 It helps to development of business relationship.
 It helpful to get better customer service.
 It helps to get more customers.
 It helps to get product in reasonable cost.
 It helps to get best variety of product.

The coronavirus outbreak was first in Wuhan city of China country in December 2019 .The first case of
2019-20 of coronavirus pandemic in India was reported on 30th January 2020 originating from China .In
April 23rd 2020 the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare have given the confirmation. Protective
measures were first applied in January 2020.After knowing the medical expert’s opinion, testing
procedure was enlarged in every state’s airport of India because of pandemic. On 22 nd March 2020,
Government of India announced curfew all over the India to reduce the intensity of infection .Rajasthan
state has announced first lockdown in country. Punjab state is the first state among the all-state of India,
who has announced first curfew.
The central government has allowed e commerce firms to start their operation from April 2020, subject
to the approval of the state government. The state government also allowed to e commerce in certain
areas and ensure compliance with rules of social distancing and sanitisation for the delivery of food and
grocery products.
The government of Maharashtra also thereafter has issued notification for e commerce to deliver of all
goods and commodities including food pharmaceutical, medical equipment excluding electronic
appliance like TV, Refrigerator etc. In accordance with the guideline announced by the Central
Government and in collaboration with state government and local authorities, Flipkart continued to
serve consumers to promote social distancing (physical distancing) through sanitized supply chain, but
the delivery persons are prohibiting by the police authority and hence, they cannot serve delivery in
time. The delivery person are not getting sufficient income hence , the e commerce business is impacted
.The survey conducted in the first two weeks of April 2020. It has come to notice that over 46 per cent
of Indian consumers will shop at physical retail stores compared to 59 per cent who shopped at physical
retail store before pandemic.
METHODOLOGY
The researcher will work on his project in the following manner in the period of lockdown.
 Hold interview via telephone , what’s app messages , email etc.
 Prepare and send the questionnaires to the different firms (sellers )
Methodology of proposed research work will include two types of data collection, namely Primary data
collection and Secondary data collection.
1. Primary data collection
In primary data collection the researcher’s main focus will be to collect the primary data from the firm
(seller) and consumers through telephonic, mail ,etc.
The sample study will comprise 20 firms and 50 consumers.
(The researcher cannot visit personally due to lockout period )
 Transport Agencies
 Restaurant Owners
 Medical Appliance suppliers
 Pharmaceuticals
2. Secondary data
The secondary data will be collected from various newspapers, Magazines, News channels and
Websites.
The researcher would like to use various websites and various channel of news etc.
RESULT & FINDINGS
During the Covid 19‘s lockdown period following issues are realised.

 Supply chain issue: - Product shortages and essentially declining consumer demand could also
insensitive e commerce growth.
 Creating convenient ways for people to shop with pickup and drive up and same day delivery.
 Upwards the online order great deal pressure on the business to fulfil them .In some instance , this
pressure is getting too much for businesses and threaten to upend their e commerce operation.
 90 per cent of Gofers fulfilmentcentres operational, 50 per cent staff active.
 Delivery in limited areas.
 Small store opened 24/7 is the key to ensure that everyone gets enough essential supply.
 Due to inter truck movement had begun companies are facing challenges of managing stock within
fulfilmentcentres. After declared of lockdown, Amazon and flip kart have stopped their new
orders and deliveries. In the starting of March 2020, the revenue of online sale has come down by
15 per cent. Apparel retailers have seen decline of up to 60 per cent.
 E commerce firms are facing huge shortages of delivery personnel. They have not been able to
bring back their staff to work, despite offering higher pay and covid related insurance packages.
Somewhere difficult to get enough passes with present curfew passes.
 According to the survey 23 per cent consumer only able to purchase online fruits and vegetables,
whereas 64 per cent of the them were able to find these items via local vendors and retail offline
stores.
CONCLUSION
Researcher is trying to find out effect of coronavirus on e commerce. The government from all side are
applying strategies and tactics to bring down in control. The pandemic disease is worsening the
country’s and state’s situation. The country as well as state is hampered both in term of health and
economics. Most of the kits are manufactured in China and hence, dependability is remarkable. With
effect of coronavirus, all the shipments processes are hindered which lowered the e commerce growth
of country and state. The research paper here comprises of the impact of the corona virus on the online
business of India. On the analysing, it has found that online businesses are seriously hampered due to
this pandemic disease. It is recommended that researcher must do their research regarding the Covid-19
(lockdown) with every possible outcome.
