REVIEW OF RELATED LITERARURE

Foreign literature

An online pharmacy is a website offering to deliver, distribute, or dispense

medication on the internet directly to consumers. According to (Fittler, A., Vida,
R. G., Káplár, M., Botz, L.,, 2018), the growing market of online pharmacies is
facilitated by the rapid expansion of the internet, the ever-increasing digital
health, the shift towards self-diagnosing from the direct doctor-patient relations,
consumer experience in online purchases, the ease of mail-order trade, and
distance selling.

Since the introduction of the Internet, there has been a revolution in the
way that products are marketed and sold to consumers. Pharmaceutical goods
are no exception, and online pharmacies or Internet pharmacies have arisen in
response. Online pharmacies are businesses which sell medicines including
those which require a prescription, on the Internet. The estimation is confirmed
by (Smith, Y. , 2019), that 1 in 6 US consumers have bought pharmaceutical
medicine online. It cannot be doubted, however, that a high degree of integrity is
required to maintain health standards and fulfil the ethical responsibility to
provide optimal care for patients.

An online shop is a way of trading and shopping online via the internet. As
clarified by (Suhirman, 2021) testified that online sales in the business sector will
significantly help reduce operational costs, especially for customer activities; in
its contribution to commerce, online sales can also increase selling power and
widely facilitate the marketing of a product.

According to (Singh H. M., 2020), e-pharmacy is being adapted. He also

stated that medications can be ordered in a one click and conveniently delivered

to customer door step with some risk like misuse of drugs and self-medication
especially for those medicine which comes under the schedule H and X.

An E-Pharmacy that operates over the internet by selling medicines and

sending them to the customers. According to (Savant, 2022), internet is making
all the things easy and convenient.

Although the large assortment of available items and instant connections

are the best parts of the internet, it has drastically and irreversibly affected our
lives. With just a few clicks, you may have something from all over the world
delivered to your door. As clarified by (Shah, 2020), For a variety of consumers,
online markets have proven to be a fantastic resource. You may sell or buy
almost anything in these markets! Since these innovations have altered our
shopping and living habits, they have also altered the health community. How?
Online health pharmacies and consultancies are on the rise right now. Online
pharmacies and consultancies, in particular, have made it easier for us to locate
and obtain medicine from all over the world. Even better, you won't have to leave
your house to receive a prescription thanks to these online options.

Development and Validation of a scale to measure the perceived benefits

and risks of online pharmacy stores
Online pharmacies business in India growing exponentially. According to
(Madhavaiah, 2020), Aimed to measure the perceived benefits and risks of online
pharmacy stores concerning respect to India. Based on the literature, the current
research study summarizes the state of online pharmacies in India. The research
paper also addresses the potential benefits and hazards of utilizing online
pharmacies. Additionally, a scale was created to measure the potential benefits
and dangers of online pharmacies, and the scale was validated using several
statistical tools. The research is significant since the number of internet
pharmacies in India is growing.

 This unregulated online market poses a risk to the health of patients and the
general public.

This trend has allowed the growth of internet pharmacies that offer a
convenient and anonymous way of purchasing a range of medicines, As cited by
(Maxwell, 2020), most developed countries require a valid prescription and a risk-
benefit assessment by a competent healthcare professional before they can be
administered. Unregulated websites are by passing the necessity for a
prescription, posing a possible risk to public health. Internet medication
purchases have already been linked to severe morbidity and mortality.
According to the authors, (András Fittler 1, Róbert György Vida 1, Mátyás
Káplár 2, & Lajos Botz 1, 2018), Although thousands of internet pharmacies are
accessible on the web, the actual size of the market is unknown. Currently, there
is limited data available on the use of internet pharmacies, the number, and
attitude of people obtaining medications and other health products from the
internet.
Internet Pharmacy: Issues of Access, Quality, Costs, and Regulation
Since the first significant Web site was launched in the United States three
years ago, Internet pharmacy has attracted a lot of attention. As cited by
(Crawford, 2020), In a period of time, the Internet pharmacy market has changed.
This research opens with an overview of historical concerns and the evolving
structure of Internet pharmacy. The benefits and drawbacks of practicing
pharmacy online are discussed. Access, quality, and cost issues are discussed.
Regulation challenges at the state and federal levels are discussed. The use of
Internet pharmacy sites for acquiring prescription drug products is recommended
to consumers.
Pharmacy Management System for The Central Pharmacy - Pokunuwita
This project illustrates the designing and implementation of a web based Pharmacy
management system for the Central Pharmacy. Pokunuwita. According to
(Rathnayake, 2021), the main goal of is to improve accuracy, safety, and efficiency
in the pharmaceutical store by reducing issues that arise during normal operations.
They are now employing a manual approach, which is extremely difficult to manage.
Some important challenges discovered in the problem domain include managing
stock with paper records based on expiry dates and the quantity available in stock.
The system aims to reduce staff workload and boost company value in order to

achieve competitive advantages in the pharmaceutical industry. Distinct users are

given different jobs by the system. They are an administrator, a cashier, a data
entry operator, and a regular user, all of whom can enter onto the system as
distinct user roles and do their jobs independently. Administrator has complete
control over the system. Administrator activities include creating users,
generating reports for managerial decisions, and managing staff attendance. In
addition, the system will display information on drug expiration dates and stock
levels. It is far easier to manage stock using software than it is to work with paper
records. Customers are the company's most valuable asset. As a result, the
system will assist in reducing customer wait times.

Philippines. According to the authors, (Gabinete, F. E., Santos, K. R. D., Red, M.

F., & Camaro, P. J., 2022) its dynamic capabilities allow Filipino consumers to
browse websites with easier and faster access as compared to the primitive way
of purchasing in the online market industry.

Philippine market remains to be constrained by several factors but

particularly in the poor quality of Internet access and payment system. As
clarified by (Clarete, 2019), the development of online pharmacies in the
Philippines provides and summarizes the key features of the online market.

The classic perception of the pharmaceutical profession in community

pharmacies is facing worldwide extinction due to many factors. According to,
(Ilardo, 2020), among the numerous factors, online pharmacies are increasingly
gaining ground thanks to their ability to facilitate customer demand.

Internet has developed as a major force in transforming how companies

do their business, which led to the rapid expansion of online pharmacies. As
defined by (Quimba, 2019), stated that the Department of Trade and Industry
adopted the Philippine online market.

(Food and Drug Administation, 2022)The Pharmacy Act defines "online selling"
as pharmaceutical services provided over the internet by a legally FDA-licensed
pharmaceutical outlet. Online selling is not limited to Philippine-based
pharmacies; it also extends beyond the country and supplies orders to customers
via mail and shipping firms, frequently through online pharmacy web portals. The
FDA currently only authorizes online ordering services if the seller already has an
FDA-licensed medication store with a physical location. If the drugstore wants to
offer online ordering, it must submit an application for online ordering as a
separate activity that must be approved by the FDA.

Philippines Online Pharmacy Retail Market Overview and Size

Online pharmacies are a relatively new concept and are gaining traction in
the region. The market witnessed a growth of 3.4% during 2014-2019. According
to (Ken, 2020), The Philippines Online Pharmacy Retail is dominated by
the Unorganized Pharmacies in terms of the number of stores. However, unorganized
pharmacies dominate in terms of revenue. The organized pharmacies are able to attract
more customers due to in-store convenience facilities such as medical checkups and
consultations, customer loyalty schemes, and wide product assortments. Most of the
organized chains are concentrated in the developed parts of the country especially in the
Luzon Islands.

Benefits Of Buying Medicine from Online Pharmacies

DISTRIPHIL e-Pharmacy is your newest partner for your health and wellness
needs!. DISTRIPHIL e-Pharmacy is the one of the leading pharmaceutical distributors in
the Philippines and a trusted partner of several local and multinational pharmaceutical
companies. As defined by (DISTRIPHIL, 2020), Buying from online pharmacies reduces
your need to go out of the safety of your home to purchase your health needs. This
means you can shop for your needs without the worry of being exposed to so many
people. Purchasing from online pharmacies would help in distancing yourself from
potential carriers, and this is more important especially for people with other health
conditions.

Proliferation of online pharmacies

Online pharmacy is an umbrella term for retailers of non-prescription and

prescription medicines that dispense or sell medicines directly to patients through the
mail and provide information on their products and services via the internet. According to
(Dineen-Griffin, 2020), Consumers may choose to utilise online pharmacies for a
multitude of reasons, such as convenience, 24/7 accessibility, price transparency,
potentially greater consumer privacy and availability of products,11,12 when compared
with brick and mortar pharmacies. For disabled or housebound patients who have
difficulty accessing a pharmacy, the option of having medicines delivered is obvious.
Consumers living in rural or remote areas, or those seeking products but who prefer
anonymity, ordering medicines online also has advantages.

Regulation of online pharmacies

As defined by (Fittler, 2020), describe legitimate online pharmacies as “websites

that comply with both the laws and regulations of the country where the online pharmacy
website operations occur and the destination to where the pharmaceutical products are
shipped to the consumer”. Online pharmacies provide access to controlled substances
(according to laws and regulations of each country or jurisdiction), which in regulated
systems require an original medical prescription before they can be supplied. However,
some online pharmacies only require an online health evaluation or completing an
“online questionnaire” to supply these medicines. The aim of the study was to provide a
global snapshot of online pharmacy operations and the distribution of medicines on the
internet; determine how online pharmacy operations may impact patient safety; and
determine the impact of online pharmacy sales (actual or perceived) on brick and mortar
pharmacies (Usman, 2020).

Improving training of pharmaceutical specialist for consultation in

pharmacy organizations using interactive forms of education

According to the research of the author (Soboleva Mariia Sergeevna,

2020), the inclusion of a patient legend in the station passport with explanation of
symptoms and reason for application to the pharmaceutical organization may
cause a decline in skill demonstration according to the parameter "Determination
of patient problem and skill to ask clarification questions."

The decline in the use of instruction on the medical application of

medications could be explained by an increase in the confidence of individuals
who have been accredited in their qualifications, knowledge, and practice earned
through interactive training in the field of "pharmaceutical consultation."

They also remark the necessity to see a doctor less frequently and pay less
attention to patients' issues. This can be explained by the lack of classroom hours
for direct work with the teacher at the simulation.

Artificial intelligence in drug discovery and development

The research of The involvement of AI in the development of a

pharmaceutical product from the bench to the bedside can be imagined, given that
it can aid rational drug design; assist in decision making; determine the right
therapy for a patient, including personalized medicines; and manage clinical data
generated and use it for future drug development. According to the research of
(Debleena Paul, 2021). Eularis E-VAI is an analytical and decision-making AI
platform that uses machine learning algorithms and an intuitive user interface to
create analytical roadmaps based on competitors, key stakeholders, and current
market share to predict key drivers in pharmaceutical sales, assisting marketing
executives in allocating resources for maximum market share gain, reversing poor
sales, and enabling them to make better decisions.

The advancement of AI, along with its astonishing tools, is continually

aimed at reducing obstacles faced by pharmaceutical firms, affecting the
medication development process as well as the total lifespan of the product, which
may explain the rise in the number of start-ups in this area. The contemporary
healthcare sector is confronted with a number of complex challenges, such as
rising medicine and therapy costs, and society need considerable improvements in
this field. These systems, on the other hand, are merely meant to make labor
easier, not to entirely replace humans. Through detailed market analysis and
forecast, AI can also help establish the product's safety and efficacy in clinical
trials, as well as ensure correct positioning and costing in the market. Despite the
absence of medications.

A proposed prototype of e-pharmacy web application for the consumer of

Saudi Arabia

(Syed Asif Hassan, 2017) In recent years, e-commerce has seen tremendous
growth by providing a virtual platform for conducting business with remarkable
convenience. Traditional herbal medicine has a long history in Saudi Arabia, which
has resulted in the growth of various regional pharmaceutical enterprises around
the country.

According to the researchers, in Saudi Arabia, however, the use of e-

commerce concepts in pharmacy has not been implemented. The proposed e-
pharmacy platform will be the first of its type, providing E-pharmacy benefits to
customers and suppliers across the kingdom. The e-pharmacy web portal will be
built using MySQL, a relational database management system, and PHP, a server-
side programming language.

As defined by (Priya Nair S., 2019) stated that E-pharmacies are

newcomers to the Indian e-commerce market, and they've been attracting
attention from the government and international investors for the past three years.

On August 28, 2018, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of the

MMMH&MC LAUNCHES TELEPHARMACY

(Mmh&mc, 2021) According to the researcher, the Mariano Marcos Memorial
Hospital and Medical Center (MMMHMC) headed by Dr. Maria Lourdes K.
Otayza, is set to launch a new online system to deliver pharmaceutical services
via telecommunication and internet to clients in various locations of the province
making it the first Hospital in Ilocos Norte to venture into Tele-pharmacy.

At any time this week, the MMMHMC will accept drug and medicine orders
through calls, texts and emails from clients to limit outpatients’ risk of exposure in
the hospital without and avoiding prolonged contact with a pharmacist during the
process of communication, dispensing of drugs and issuances of official receipts.

To be able to lessen the burden of clients queuing inside the hospital

especially the Senior Citizens (SCs) and Persons With Disabilities (PWDs), and
to assist patients in home isolations,  MMMHMC licensed pharmacists will
implement the ORDER and PICK-UP service to facilitate faster transactions in
purchasing medicines. Upon receipt of calls, the licensed pharmacist records the
personal details of the client and advises them to send their prescription photo
with complete information including the name of the physician via e-mail or
Facebook page. The client and the pharmacist will agree on the time of pick at
the OPD Pharmacy Waiting Shed Area, along the national highway. This means
that clients need not go inside the hospital to pick up orders. For validation
purpose, the client will be required to present the original prescription to the
pharmacist.

(Abeabe, P. J., Maro, M. M., Ramos, R., 2022) According to the researchers, it was
stated that the pandemic of COVID-19 has raised demand for e - Commerce in
the Philippines. The growing middle class, increased consumer spending, and a
youthful, lively, tech-savvy populace all contribute to the expansion of e -
Commerce. E-commerce, or electronic commerce, is the buying and selling of
goods or services electronically on the internet. It can also refer to other online
activities, such as auctions, ticketing, and banking. The majority of people gain
from e-commerce in the sense that it allows us to avoid being exposed to the
Covid19 virus by using it to purchase goods. Furthermore, because we live in the
age of modern technology, E – commerce has the potential to have a significant
influence on all of us, allowing us to buy for our everyday requirements and
necessities simply by surfing the internet. On the other hand, it was said that As
defined by (Velasco, 2020), chief executive officer of Prosperna, explained the
power of e-commerce while encouraging the adoption of such technology for a
successful business and economy in the future. “Technologies like e-commerce
and logistics help customers and companies increase their communications,
make business easier for them and enable access to new markets, products, and
services,” Mr. Velasco said. “So, I believe what we are going through today [will]
change the face of Philippine economy and society forever.”

As a result, the researchers agree that e-commerce is essential for the

business growth of companies in this time of pandemic. This study aims to
determine how effective e-commerce is especially in today's generation and
determining its advantages and disadvantages as well as its contribution to the
business industry would be further assessed.
