Children must have often wished they could stay at home and have days off from school

-- and yet, when these

days are here, children find that they are not easy. Once the newness has worn off children may begin to feel a
range of emotions from irritability to fear, because with schools and classes and activities, they are so used to
being completely occupied, on a moment to moment schedule. Children also may realize that academics without a
teacher and a classroom of friends is no fun at all.

Art keeps children engaged and stress free because unlike learning in most other subjects, art does not demand
one right answer. Art is open-ended and so it gives children stress-free activity time. Art can be shared with all
family members. In fact, art is perhaps one of the oldest inter-human activities -- cave man was drawing on cave
walls even before he had learnt to build a house! :-) So perhaps it is a good time to reboot and return to this
universal activity.

So here we are, sharing a few ideas with you from Little Artists, published by Oxford University Press.
We hope that the children enjoy these activities, explore their creativity and imagination, and get picture smart.
Please don't worry over having the right materials -- these activities need no special materials -- any colours and
any paper will do. Plus, it is always good to improvise -- use the idea and find a way of doing it with what you have.

As the quote goes, Creativity is intelligence having fun. We do hope these activities will bring joy and learning with
every page! :-)
