The MERCATOR map has been widely used as the official world map for many years.
Recently it has come to my attention that there are glaring discrepancies in the proportions
of the countries and continents compared to others. Here are several visual depictions that
show some of the most acute discrepancies. Mexico has been set to the same scale on either
map to provide a baseline for observing the inaccuracies in scale.
