8. Class Attendance and Participation

• Regular class attendance is strongly advised and is necessary for students to fully grasp
many of the course concepts.
• Please be on time to class.
• If you miss a class session, it will be your responsibility to find out the materials that
were covered.
• Students in attendance are expected to be active participants in the course. This
participation includes: contributing to class discussions, providing insight into the class
discussion topics, raising questions, and relating class material to personal experiences
and other course topics.
9. Grading Criteria / Policy
Developing the criteria for grade determination: This section of a course typically
includes information regarding course assignments, point values for those assignments,
information on how final grades are calculated, etc. Although there are some common
components that most faculty members include in this section, the “criteria for grade
determination” can vary greatly depending on teaching style, discipline, etc. One
important thing to remember is that this section is different than the section of the
syllabus that outlines the methods for assessing the expected learning outcomes. A
description of how final grades (A’s, B’s, C’s, D’s, and F’s) are determined and
assigned;
It can also be helpful to include any policies related to
 late assignment penalties;
 extra credit opportunities;
 curving grades; and/or
 Information regarding grade appeals. ]
Your final grade for this course will be based on your performance in the class
participation, quizzes, assignments, class tests and the final exam.

9.4 Participation in class discussions:

Students should participate in class discussion by posting their comments or questions
and/or by responding to at least one other classmate each week. The instructor expects
each student to contribute at least one thoughtful, quality posting per week (including the
response to a classmate). Just logging on and reading other people's postings is not
considered participation, nor is mere agreement with others' postings.
Quality of postings is more important than their sheer frequency, length or grammatical
form. Quality includes, but is not limited to:
a) Commentary on the lecture for the current topic;
b) Detailed sharing of a student's experience or research relative to the week's topic;
c) Opinions on the topic that are backed with compelling facts and reasoning;
d) Raising questions that help the class better understand the topic, particularly by
proposing; and explaining implications that might have been overlooked in the
lecture, or in previous discussion.

Quality participation also means conveying your experience, research, opinions,

questions or commentary in a professional manner. Comments on projects produced by
other students are an important part of the learning process. Comments must be made in
a respectful and constructive manner. Disagreements among students are expected and
often valuable, but they should be expressed tactfully, not in a confrontational tone.
10. Statement of Ethical Principles
Applied Electronics and Instrumentation Department of Adi Shankara Institute of
Engineering and Technology, Kalady, have created a statement of ethical principles for
all faculty and students in the Department.
Engineering Professionals works to enhance the wellbeing of the society. In doing
so they are required to maintain high ethical standards and challenge unethical behavior.
The statement by itself is not prescriptive; it is neither a regulation nor a standard.

Engineering Faculty and Students should uphold the following principles:

1. Be Honest and Trustworthy.

2. Be punctual in the class

3. Ensure timely completion of activities assigned.

4. All the Reports /Assignments must contain proper references.

5. Keep their knowledge and skills up-to date.

6. Give paramount importance to Health and safety of others and draw attention
towards Hazards.

7. Respect for life, law and environment is quintessential.

The following are considered as academic ethics violation:

      Plagiarism - Paraphrasing, or putting into one’s own words, the text of a

source without providing proper acknowledgment of the source or providing a
proper citation.
      Presenting any work or part of a work or assignment that has been prepared
by someone else as one’s own.
      Altering, Misrepresenting and resubmitting assignments, tests, quizzes,
Reports or exams to gain additional credit
      Vindication of Malpractices in an examination

PO6:- Engineering ethics is the study of the moral issues and decisions confronting
individuals and organizations engaged in engineering and the study of related questions
about the moral ideals, character, policies, and relationships of people and corporations
involved in technological activity

PO7:- Environmental ethics is the part of environmental philosophy which considers

extending the traditional boundaries of ethics from solely including humans to including
the non-human world. Sustainability could be defined as an ability or capacity of
something to be maintained or to sustain itself

PO8: - Professional Ethics is the underlying concept behind the successful

accomplishment of any act of a professional towards achieving the individual and
societical goals. These goals should ultimately result in morally, legally, ethically, and
even culturally acceptable good things for all

PO9:- Lack of ethical values has been a major factor behind the down fall of many
firms, companies and corporate even though some had grand vision and mission
statements. Lack of knowledge or more than that, misuse of knowledge can create
horrors and disasters. Following ethics and focus on human values are rapidly becoming
a must for professional in order to diminish or nullify the scope and effect of such
disasters

PO10:- Value education is by which people give values to others. It can be an activity

action or behaviour.It is an activity and also an area of enquiry. Professional ethics
encompass the personal, organizational and corporate standards of behavior expected of
professionals. It is a lifelong learning process

PSO2:-All the product design and development can be done sustainably i.e. it doesn’t
affect our environment in a negative way.
