Sit-1.

Using NSCP 2001, design a reinforced concrete column to support an axial dead load of 810 KN and
an axial live load of 1450 KN. Assume that 2% longitudinal steel ratio is desired.

1.) How much is the ultimate axial load that will be resisted if the column is tied?
2.) After 28 days of curing, the concrete strength must be 4000psi. What is the length of one side of
a square tied column if Grade-60 reinforcing bars are to be used? Round to the nearest required
10mm.
3.) Continuing prob. 2, what is the required diameter of the deformed bars? Assume 28mm, 29mm,
30mm, 31mm, 32mm & 33mm bars are available in the market.

Sit-2. A constructed spiral column is reinforced with 6-32mm diameter longitudinal bars with a yield
strength of 414 mpa. Concrete strength is 28 mpa. Clear concrete cover is 40mm from the 10-mm
diameter spiral bar. Area of concrete core is 125663.7061 mm^2. Use NSCP 2010.

4.) What is the nominal axial strength that the steel reinforcement alone contribute?
5.) What is the ultimate axial capacity of the column
6.) What is the allowed live load in KN if the calculated dead load is 1000 KN?
