Note Rhythms and their names:

Whole Note, Half Note, Dotted Half Note, Quarter Note, (Eighth Note, Sixteenth Note)
Do some maths for these two.
Show what they look like and show how many beats they are worth.
Do 10 examples of notes and ask what their names are called
Do 10 examples of notes and have them write how many beats they are worth
Time signature – 4/4 means there are four beats in a measure. A measure is the fancy
word for the rectangle box that is made which is made by a bar line.
Let’s Clap each of these individual Rhythms to a beat
Draw four measures and write 4 beats for each of them - fill the beats out with a
rhythm and have them clap it for you – Split the students into ones who will clap the
rhythm , and the other that will clap the beat
Erase and draw four measures again. Have each student fill it out for you.
Explain 3/4 – 3 beats in each bar. Then show them a rhythm . Have them clap for you –
split these students into ones that will clap the rhythm and the other that will clap the
beat.
Erase and draw four measures of 3 / 4 rhythm and ask them to help you fill it out
One group claps the beat, other group claps the rhythm
Use Hickory Dickory Dock Rhythm and Beat Sheet and also Incy Wincy Spider. Split
students into two and have them clap each the rhythm and beat. Have them switch.
Let’s Clap each of these individual Rhythms to a beat
Draw out a rhythm in 4/4. Number each beat, write a rhythm. Ask which one is the
rhythm, which one is the beat.

There are 7 music alphabet notes – they go from A to G. After G it goes back to A
There are 26 normal alphabet notes.
In music, it is important to say them forwards and also backwards.
Let’s say them forwards – A B C D E F G
Let’s say them backwards – GFE DCB A – Try grouping them into 3’s to help with doing
this.
Music is written on the Treble Clef and the Bass Clef
Treble Clef – Bass Clef – G Clef – F Clef
There are two types of notes – Line Notes and Space notes
Line note – a line pierces through it Space Note – is in between two lines
We use rhymes to help us remember each of these note names. Here are examples
Trebl Clef :Every Good Boy Deserves Fruit FACE
Good Birds Don’t Fly Away – All Cows Eat Grass
Let’s make some random rhymes of our own.
Ask for a word from each students.
Do 10 examples and ask each student to write down each one and then reveal every
example.
