Visualization in a fashion company

1. Challenge: Describe your challenge, including all relevant information.

My mother is fashion designer and is managing her haute couture workshops

since 1967.
The workshops/company is specialized in traditional festive dresses/outfits and
evening dresses. It’s also making the most outfits for local celebrities.
For 30 years the company has been running with a quite steady business
development, but recently the local context is changing dramatically and
fast. Chinese competition which has put the business under pressure, Technology
has also been a market disruptor and Consumers are changing the way they shop,
due to the rise of social media, formal retail and e-commerce.
The company recognized the necessity to transform from a traditional trade-
oriented business into a value adding business.

The company managers decided to build an innovation team within the company.
I was the first to join this newly established group, a very small team.

2. Selection: In your own words, briefly describe the tool you selected (e.g., what it is and why
you selected it for your challenge -- including any appropriate video lecture references).

We started with two persons in the beginning. We were trying to find our way
within the existing company. It was a rough period: explaining our purpose and
the situation of my family business in at that moment, but our consumer-centric
approach did find its way in the company. Gradually, our team grew with experts
on consumer research, digital marketing, social media and content marketing.
The new team actively started reaching out the dressmakers, stylists and
modelists.
Each one was participating in different workshops and letting all profit from the
team’s expertise on innovation and design thinking.
I used Visual Thinking, to achieve a shared understanding of the problem among a
diverse group of partners and then identify and come up with a new vision and
strategy by applying technology innovations to modernize fashion making and the
delivery of the company
services to its clients
