A seminar on Gender and Development- Integrated Curriculum for Cebuano Learners to Engage
for Better Understanding was an extension activity of the MAED-AS students in the course, EDUC 603
Philo and Psycho-social Foundations of Education. (blablablabla……………………………………………ikay puno
te, hihi di ko kabalo.)

The seminar workshop had four sessions and various activities. In the first part, Mrs. Cardines
discussed the overview of DepEd’s learning and development system. She started the first topic by
asking the first year BEEd students if what kind of learners were they, if they were feeling, watching,
thinking or doing learners. The two groups answered that they were doing learners because they believe
that they can really learn and reflect if they do and apply the learning by themselves. (pun e niya te
basin naa pay laeng rason hihi). Then, they also talked about their learning styles and teaching styles. The
participants said that they teach according to how they learn and how they were taught. Unknowingly,
they teach according to their learning style. ( murag hanging ni siya dre dapita, di ko kabalo mupuno).

In the second session of the workshop, Mrs. Cardines introduced the GAD- based iC Cebu. She
explained that it is an intervention that empowers learners possessing the 21 st century skills using the
different approaches to integration. She let the students identify the different 21 st century skills. They
brainstormed and come up with the answers such as communication, ICT, collaboration, innovation and
life skills. They introspected that these skills improve learner’s performance on the eight subject area
and empower them to learn beyond borders. ( basin naa pa kay ikapuno ani te).

The third session of the workshop was all about iC CEBU Approaches to Integration. Mrs.
Cardines started the topic by having a game. She let each group list as many words as they can that start
with the given prefix (multi, inter, trans). The group with the most number of correct words listed won
the game. After the game, she introduced the three approaches to integration: multidisciplinary, in
which the discussion will focus on a particular theme: interdisciplinary, in which skills that are taught are
applicable in all subject areas to the learning process can be facilitated; and transdisciplinary, which is
project-based learning approach that requires students’ participation and explanation. She emphasized
that these approaches connects different ideas of study by cutting across subject matter lines and
emphasizing unifying concepts, making connections for students, allowing them to engage in relevant,
meaningful activities that can be connected to real life.

The last session was all about the 5E’s Pedagogical Teaching-Learning Processes. Mrs. Cardines
let the participants identify what were the different parts of the lesson plan. After discussing on how to
make a good lesson plan, each group was tasked to make their own lesson plan and chose a
representative to present their work. They learned that 5 E’s is helpful in the teaching-learning process
because it helps in achieving a continuous flow of the lesson development and addresses the different
learning styles.
