 GENERAL BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The New Orleans Hose (“Hose”) club is a
reputed and long-standing stalwart in the
professional basketball game and has five
future draft picks along with two All-Star
Players. It has had wide success with its
existing line-up of some of the best-
performing NBA stars. One of its stars is
Anthony Travis, a 26 year old American
basketball superstar playing the power
forward position. He has been a 6x All-Star
Player and received many honors such as
All-Star MVP, Defensive First Team etc.
Being drafted by the Hose in 2012, he has
been a consistently performing player.
However, with the Free Agency season
approaching, there have been certain rumors
regarding Travis’ future with Hose.
The employment contract (“Contract”)
signed by Travis stated that he will have an
option of signing a Super-Max Extension
worth $240 million with the Hose.
Furthermore, a buyout clause in his
Contract also states that any trade requests
before the Free Agency season starts would
require a minimum payment of $500 Million
through value of players traded or cash or a
mixture of the two. The Contract shall
expire in two weeks which is when the Free
Agency will start.
Los Angeles Galadon (“Galadon”) is a
professional basketball club based out of

Los Angeles and is one of the most reputed
clubs, starring various Hall of Fame Players
such as Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant,
Kareem Abdul Jabbar etc. It recently
acquired one of the biggest NBA star small
forwards LeBron Games (“Games”). While
Galadon boasts of being one of the reigning
championship contenders, a relatively
younger roster with promising players such
as Lonzo Ball, KCP, Brandon Ingram etc.
makes it difficult for them to be a Playoff
contender team. The President of Galadon,
Magic Johnson along with Games, felt the
need of another prime All-Star forward to
make an impressive effort in the playoffs.
Galadon also felt that if such a trade could
be made before the start of Free Agency, it
would help save some cap space and help
acquire players during the Free Agency.
Six months earlier, Travis and Games had
been seen together at a charity game and the
media reported that Travis was interested in
signing with Galadon preferably during the
season. Amid such trade rumours, Hose had
made it clear that they had no interest in
trading Travis and planned to sign him on a
Super-Max Extension. With the Playoffs
nearing, there had been increasing pressure
on Galadon to make a trade run for Travis
and look at the possible options of acquiring
him. With this mindset, a trade request had
been made by Galadon to Hose.
In the negotiations, Hose had demanded
four of the starting five Players along with
three Future Draft Picks and $20.3 Million
for salary-matching purpose. Galadon was
shocked with this outrageous proposal
which essentially required trading their
entire roster for one player. The
negotiations failed and this had a negative
impact on the players of both teams.
Furthermore, Travis was denied an option
to play in the next 7 games, effectively
removing him from the Playoffs. On the
other hand, Galadon’s roster was disturbed
by the possibility of being traded. To add to
this, Games had an injury in-game which
added to the bad performance of the team
in the subsequent games.

The Playoffs ended on a bad note for both

the teams. With the Free Agency date
approaching, both the teams feel a need to
enter into fresh set of negotiations to seek
out the possible options for a trade. In light
of the same, the parties have agreed to
mediate the matter. Ty Lue on behalf of
Hose and Magic Johnson on behalf of
Galadon will meet at a neutral location to
negotiate a potential deal.
