This article aims to investigate The Role of Six Factors in Improving English Speaking
Fluency. Gholamhossein Shahini as the corresponding author. The researcher investigates the
six-factor, they are age, university education, teachers of English Language institutes, teaching
English, dictionary, and note-taking. The author made this study with qualitative research, that
the subject was most fluent speakers of English from the English language teachers in English
language institutes and EFL learners in an English language department in Shiraz, Iran. And
made an interview to gather the data.

The first factor showed that it is good for those who learn English since they were
children about 6 -7 years whereas; they learn English when they got an adult. Chastain’s view
(1988) who believes age is a considerable factor in language learning. And also the participant
expressed that if they do not learn English since they were young, they could not as fluent as
now. The second factor is university education. They were expressed that to get fluency in
speaking, it does not necessary to count on university education because they had no
opportunities to speak with, and also they had no native speakers. English teachers in institutes,
the third factor showed that it was good to have the English teachers improve speaking because
they had someone to talk to. The fourth factor is teaching English, they said that since the classes
were demanding, class preparation had a great effect on boosting their fluency. Concerning the
fifth factor, to always carry on the dictionary and the participant agreed on that. Harmer (2015),
who emphasize the role of using dictionaries, whether monolingual or bilingual, in language
learning. Finally, note-taking and the majority of the participants had their notebooks. They
would write down the new words, expressions and anything notice them. Regarding keeping
notebooks, Brown and Lee (2015) believe that “an effective way to encourage word-learning is
to urge students to use vocabulary notebooks to enter new words, and to review them daily, once
they identify their learning goals” (p. 484).

From the previews study, it is good to investigate the young learners that affect their
speaking ability due to the six-factors above.
