The definition of health has extended to include more than the absence of a

disease, but the state of complete well-being, socially, mentally, and physically

(Martins, 2017). Musculoskeletal, metabolic, and multisystem health dysfunctions are

chronic diseases that disrupt the normal functioning of the body. The three share some

standard features or pathophysiological changes and abnormal findings with

symptoms that affect the functions of a patient.

One of the common pathophysiological change is abnormal body fat

distribution. In musculoskeletal disorders, fat redistribution reduces the ability of

organs and tissues to function normally (Ploumis & Gkiatas, 2019). Metabolic

syndrome in the elderly population is linked with excessive accumulation of

intramuscular or visceral abdominal fat or even people with regular weights. Increase

in the production of fatty acids causes an alteration in the composition of Low-

Density Lipids (LDL), thereby increasing the risks of contracting cardiovascular

diseases (Martins, 2017). Symptoms associated with the abnormal fat distribution

include joint pains, fatigue, snoring, increased sweating, and breathlessness. Another

way through which the three shows a similarity is an apoptosis. For musculoskeletal

disorders lower the capability of cell differentiation and the rate of apoptosis is

lowered. The condition may lead to loss of articular cartilage vitality that suppresses

the mechanisms of cartilage repair. On the other hand, metabolic syndrome boosts

apoptosis signaling. Thus the rate of cell death for the patients with this disorder is

raised. Also, survival signaling is highly decreased in chronic myocardium. Similarly,

patients suffering from Multiple Organ Disorder (MOD) are also at risk of apoptosis.

According to Graetz & Hotchkiss (2017), caspase-3-mediated apoptosis leads to

higher lymphocyte apoptosis during sepsis and might affect the immune system,

which characterizes the disorder. One of the significant symptoms of apoptosis is

fatigue due to anemia caused by insufficient red blood cells. Additionally, it may lead

to inflammation in some instances as well as autoimmune diseases.
