TUAZON BSN 1-I HEALTH EDUCATION

ACTIVITY 1: FUTURE EDUCATOR

“What would life could offer me, when I grow old?”. That’s the question that oftenly
lingers among us. After 10 years I am very sure that me and my batchmates have different
paths. However, it would be a great pleasure if I would be a Health Educator. It will always be a
great privilege of me, teaching other people. As teaching will always be my first love.

Aside of me, taking up my masteral or doctorate degree, I am envisioning myself

working in a poor rural community here in the Philippines. Because if a pandemic like COVID-19
hits the Philippines again, then they’re one of the most vulnerable. Usually people who live
there are the one who’s away from any “kabihasnan”. So sometimes, they don’t know even the
simplest or basics. And I want to serve my fellow countrymen. I just have this unusual
satisfaction (a great, great feeling) of helping others knowing that they’re Filipinos also. I
believe in a saying, “Sino pa ba ang magtutulong-tulungan, kundi tayo rin?”. I want to dedicate
several years to Filipino people regardless of me having a good salary overseas. I want to give
back to the land where I was born. Yet I’m not closing my doors to the possibilities that could
happen and I don’t want to be a hypocrite saying that I am not aiming for a good salary. It’s just
that, I want to serve the Philippines for the mean time. I want to build a great relationship
towards people by educating them, advocating and promoting health. Especially, to the young
people. Why? Because these young people still have the curiosity in them. Which would serve
as a great tool to make them absorb almost everything that I will say. I want to nurture
something that they can bring until they’re all old enough. Yet they still have these innocent
minds. Young people can be educated, they can still be filled with knowledge because of this
“curiosity” in them. So that in the future, when they grow up, they already know how to handle
things and keep their family healthy. As they can share/pass what they have learned to their
love ones and in to the next generation. Also, they can manage and have the energy to help the
people who’s older than them. Compare to the old ones, sometimes they forgot things easily.
As a result of them not sharing or doing it. Or sometimes, because of an existing belief, they
have the tendency to ignore what I am about to say. In addition, everyone can be a role model
even if you’re NOT the eldest among your family. So, the young ones can be a role model as
well. Furthermore, I want to correct the common misconceptions about health. The old ways
that they acquire from the older people. I want to give them the courage to do what’s right and
believe on the things that has basis. The young ones have this power of influencing others.
Although, young people are oftenly “makulit”. I want to use that trait of them for me to learn
the art of patience. Honestly speaking, I don’t have that much patience in me. Also, I will be a
kind of educator who’s willing to answer their questions. A kind of educator who’s willing to
offer thyself, to go an extra mile for them, thoughtful, selfless, works beyond working hours and
an educator that will make learning easier yet fun.
