Chughtai Lab Since 1983 – 35 Years of Excellence

Chughtai Lab is one of the best and leading pathology labs in Pakistan. It was founded by Dr. A. S.
Chughtai in 1983 as “Lahore Lab” in three rooms with three technicians and one pathologist. Lahore Lab
started the first lab outreach program in Pakistan by opening a STAT Lab on Jail Road, Lahore. Dedicated
to serving the humanity, Lahore Lab started blood bank services with donor screening in 1986 and
started ELISA bases hepatitis and hormone testing in 1987. After two years Lahore Lab started Fine
Needle Aspiration service, a diagnostic procedure used to investigate lumps or masses. In 1989, semi-
automated chemistry analyzer was installed, which helped in getting faster and more reliable results.
Lahore Lab continued to serve and expanded its network in Lahore and finally was renamed as
Chughtais Lahore Lab in 1997.

The outreach program of Chughtai Lahore Lab extended beyond Lahore and locations were opened in
Gujranwala, Okara and Faisalabad. With the growing network, Chughtais Lahore Lab upgraded its
system by developing and installing customized lab software by the name of “Nexus” in 2001 which was
further updated and installed as “Nexus Pro” in year 2007. While in 2006, Chughtais Lahore Lab became
the Launch Customer for Abbott Architect Ci8200 integrated chemistry and immunology instrument.

Chughtais Lahore Lab opened its locations at Islamabad and Rawalpindi in 2009. With the passage of
time, the technology was also upgraded and in 2010 Bar Code sample labeling and tracking was
implemented. It enabled two-way interface between instrument and lab software. Back to back in 2010
and 2011, the lab set the example for community service during Dengue Fever outbreaks. During a
period of two months, more than 125,000 CBC tests were performed for free or at subsidized rates. In
the same year, Chughtais Lahore Lab achieved ISO 15189 standard and Multan STAT lab was also
opened.

Later in 2012, Chughtais Lahore Lab installed the Abbott m2000 automated PCR system allowing
consolidation of PCR testing on a single, reliable, high performance platform. In the same year,
Chughtais Lahore Lab came up with some innovation in its services and started free home visits in
Lahore and locations in Bahawalpur and Sargodha were opened. In 2013, Chughtais Lahore Lab
approved for FCPS Training in Hematopathology and Histopathology and lab opened its locations in
Peshawar, Larkana, Sukkur and Jacobabad.

In 2015, Chughtais Lahore Lab was renamed as Chughtai Lab. Chughtai Lab was opened in Karachi in
2016. After 34 years of struggle and dedication to serve the nation, Chughtai Lab now, is the largest
network of a laboratory in Pakistan with 1 Central Lab, 6 STAT Labs and 160+ locations in more than 50
cities of Pakistan. We have 15 Consultant Pathologists, 24 Resident Pathologists and more than 100
BSc/MSc/MPhil Lab Scientists working with us. The Chughtai Lab Team and its network is growing
rapidly across the country with the idea of serving that nation with best quality lab services with quick
reporting time.
