Journal 3: Week 3 (May 21, 2017- May 25, 2017)

The third week of my internship at ‘Banglalink’ started from 21 st May 2017. In this week, we
went for a trip as well as our department head invited the entire department for a lunch treat
so that we could get a chance to know each other in a better way. During the third week span,
we, the interns of the ‘Tiger’s Den’- Banglalink headquarter, became very close with our
seniors which delineated a friendly environment of this organization and workplace culture.

Work Done:

On 21st May, I worked under another senior executive who instructed me to understand what
a Call Regulatory System is, how it works and he taught me the different terms such as ICX
(Interconnection Exchange), IGW (International Gateway), PSTL (Public Switched
Telephone Network) , current MNO’s (Mobile Network Operators) etc. First he called upon a
meeting and used power point slides so that I can easily understand the relationship between
the previously mentioned operations. From 22nd he delegated me with the work to regulate all
the calls, track them, and turn the incoming and outgoing call minutes into percentage. Then I
was told to make a database arranging those data in ascending order so that it can be easily
checked which ICX has taken much time to regulate the calls. Here BTRC takes the higher
percentage. All the task is done by the Microsoft Excel. That is quite a different concept that I
have come to acknowledge here and this particular system provided me the opportunity to use
the Microsoft Excel on a very different level.

The very next day I was given the task to regulate the Domestic calls. After that I had to
make a detailed report on the current status of regulatory system and suggestions of
implementing more percentage on some ICX as they are decrementing below a standardized
level. After completing those tasks, I attended a meeting where all the reports had been
shown to other members of the department and a system recovery procedures was discussed.
In the entire week, I worked under Mr. Ahmed Mashroof Al-Amin (Regulatory Affairs
Manager) with various tasks. He asked me to help him out with some tasks related to a BTRC
vetted project where the company is obligated to submit a report regarding the outgoing call
records, the revenue generated from it as well as the maintenance of the policies associated. I
was assigned to see the transactions of the calls of the previous month (April 2017). He said
that this will be beneficial for me to have a clear understanding about those things mentioned
throughout and maximum profits earning process of the organization. The next day I
submitted a spreadsheet of the transaction records along with the details of the transactions.
The rest of the week I worked for Mr. Mashroof with smaller tasks and had several meetings
with the group for a discussion about the improvement of the regulatory system.

Learning:

Throughout the week, I noticed that all the employees became quite friendly with me as
Banglalink maintains a flat organization structure. It gave me a proper platform of
intertwining my learning of a flat organizational structure with an actual one. One of the most
interesting part was learning out the different aspects of incoming and outgoing call record
procedures the both in the domestic and international arena.. Last but not the list, in this
entire week I learned a totally new side of a telecommunication company and the implication
procedure of them using the spreadsheet or excel file which eventually helped me to learn the
Microsoft Excel on a next level as I am a HR student it will help me a lot in future.
