Tutorial 6 Solutions

1 Problem 1
1. f12 = 4, f14 = 4, f23 = 0, f25 = 4, f45 = 4
2. Set π5 = 0. Then π1 = 11.1, π2 = 5, π3 = −0.5, π4 = 3.2. The multipliers
are not unique.
3.
c̄13 = c13 − π1 + π3 = 5 − 11.1 − 0.5 = −6.6
c̄24 = c24 − π2 + π4 = 2 − 5 + 3.2 = 0.2
c̄43 = c43 − π4 + π3 = 7 − 3.2 − 0.5 = 3.3
c̄35 = c35 − π3 + π5 = 3 + 0.5 − 0 = 3.5
c̄14 = c14 − π1 + π4 = 4.4 − 11.1 + 3.2 = −3.5

Arc (1, 3) is the only candidate.

4. Add (1, 3), which makes (1, 2), (2, 3), (1, 3) form a cycle. (2, 3) exits the
basis and (1, 3) enters. The flow is the same as before. The new multipliers
are π1 = 11.1, π2 = 5, π3 = 6.1, π4 = 3.2, π5 = 0.
