Detemination of Vitamin C ( Ascorbic acid)

Materials
Acetic Acid, ascorbic Acid, 2,6-dichlorophenolindophenol Salt, Metaphosphoric Acid, Sodium
bicarbonate, Amber bottle with stopper, burette, conical flask, filter paper, funnel, glass rod,
measuring cylinder, volumetric flask, pipette, beaker, retort stand for burette.

Reagents
1. Methaphosphoric Acid (HPO3), 6%
2. Methaphosphoric Acid (HPO3), 3%
3. Ascorbic Acid Standard, 0.2mg/ml (dissolve 100 mg Ascorbic Acid in 3% HPO3 solution and dilute
to 500 ml with the same solution)
4. 2,6-dichlorophenol-indophenol, 0.025% (dissolve 50 mg of sodium salt of 2,6-dichlorophenol-
indophenol in approximately 150ml of water containing 42 mg Sodium Bicarbonate, cool and then
dilute with water to 200ml)

Procedures
1. Extraction: known quantity of the sample (200-300g) was blended with an equal volume of 6%
HPO3 to homogenous slurry. Make up to a measured volume (500ml)___
2. A volume of the homogenous mixture (10-30ml) was measured into a 100ml volumetric flask.
Diluted tp 100ml with 3% HPO3. The diluted suspension was filtered; alternatively, the suspension
may be centrifuged.
3. Titration:
