1. SBI Cards & Payment Services raise Rs 2,769 Cr ahead of its initial share sale
SBI Cards & Payment Services has raised Rs 2,769 Crore from 74 anchor investors, ahead of its initial
share sale. Anchor investors are institutional investors, who are offered shares in an initial public
offering, ahead of its opening. Singapore govt is among one of the anchor investors.
2. HDFC Bank launches co-branded credit card with IndiGo
HDFC Bank joined hands with airline IndiGo to launch a co-branded credit card, which will effectively
work like a loyalty programme for the carrier. Labelled Ka-ching, the card will offer many benefits like
complimentary air tickets, lounge access etc. Bank aims to sell 1 million Ka-ching cards over next 3
years.
3. ADB to provide $4 million to member countries to contain coronavirus outbreak
Asian Development Bank will provide a total of USD 4 million (about ₹29 crore) to help developing
countries in Asia and Pacific to fight the outbreak of novel coronavirus (COVID-19). The funds will be
available for all ADB developing member countries. ADB announced USD 4 million for this earlier in
February.
4. RBI receives ₹1.71 trillion in Long-term repo operation (LTRO)
The Reserve Bank of India received ₹1.71 trillion in the third long-term repo operation (LTRO)
conducted for an amount of ₹25,000 crore. The RBI will conduct another LTRO for three-year tenor
worth ₹25,000 crore on March 9. Shaktikanta Das, 25th governor of Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
5. NABARD, IIT Mandi sign MoU to develop farmer friendly tech
IIT Mandi along with the Enabling Women of Kamand (EWOK) Society signed a MoU with NABARD). IIT
Mandi will get Rs 35 lakh under the MoU with NABARD for collaboration on setting up Farmer Producer
Organisations (FPOs) in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh. National Bank for Agriculture and Rural

6. World Bank announces 12 bn aid package to help countries combat coronavirus outbreak
World Bank unveiled a $12 billion aid package that will provide fast-track funds to help countries
combat the coronavirus outbreak. The funds, some of which are targeted to the world's poorest nations,
can be used for medical equipment or health services. Fund will also include expertise and policy
advice.
7. NABARD infuses Rs 1.46 lakh Cr in rural banking system during current fiscal
National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has infused 1.46 lakh Cr in the rural
banking system during the current fiscal. 66,397 Cr Rs have been given in short-term credit and 6,704
Cr Rs in long-term credit to rural cooperative banks. Short-term refinance is essentially production
credit.
12. PNB announces share exchange ratio for merger with Oriental Bank, United Bank
Punjab National Bank has announced the share exchange ratio for the merger with Oriental Bank of
Commerce & United Bank of India. The bank also said the board has fixed March 25 as the date for
issuing and allotting its equity shares to the shareholders. Punjab National Bank MD- S. S. Mallikarjuna

14. SBI cuts MCLR rate, home loans to get cheaper
SBI has cut its marginal cost of fund-based lending rate (MCLR) by up to 15 basis points across various
tenors, effective from March 10. The bank has reduced its one-year MCLR by 10 basis points to 7.75%
from 7.85% earlier. SBI has also cut its FD rates. This is 10th consecutive cut in MCLR by SBI this
fiscal.
15. Equitas Small Finance Bank introduces Current Account with Sweep In Sweep Out FD
Equitas SFB introduced current account with sweep in and sweep out fixed deposit for entrepreneurs,
self-employed professionals and businessmen. With 24 x 7 cash deposit facility, customers also get
interests on idle funds with Sweep Out Fixed Deposit. Vasudevan Pathangi Narasimhan is the MD & CEO

16. World Bank signs Integrated Project for Source Sustainability & Climate Resilient Rain-
Fed Agriculture in Himachal Pradesh
The Government of India, Government of Himachal Pradesh and the World Bank signed a $80 million
loan agreement to improve water management practices and increase agricultural productivity in
selected Gram Panchayats (Village Councils) in Himachal Pradesh. It will be implemented in 428 Gram
Panchayats in 10 districts.

29. To maintain liquidity, RBI to purchase Rs 10,000 Cr govt bonds via OMO
RBI will buy Rs 10,000 Cr of bonds from the secondary market to keep the market liquid, even as it
infused Rs 25,000 Cr of liquidity through Long Term Repo Operations. The RBI has already infused Rs 1
trillion of liquidity through LTRO since February. The bonds are mature between February 2022 and May
2025.
30. RBI extends authorization issued to Vakrangee for white label ATMs
RBI provided the Renewal of Authorization for Vakrangee. The validity has been extended till 31 March
2021.RBI also assigned a target of minimum 1,000 ATMS to be deployed by Vakrangee for every
calendar year starting 2020 for an initial period of 3 years. ATMs deployed Ratio, Metro & Urban, Semi-
Urban & Rural- 1:2:3.
31. ADB announces $6.5 Billion package for Developing Member Countries
Asian Development Bank (ADB) announced a $6.5 billion package for its developing member countries
to fight the coronavirus pandemic. ADB stands ready to provide further financial assistance and policy
advice down the road whenever the situation warrants. ADB headquartered- Manila; ADB President
Masatsugu Asakawa.
32. SIDBI to start Swavalamban Express for budding entrepreneurs
The Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) said it will start Swavalamban Express as part
of umbrella mission Swavalamban on June 5 this year for budding entrepreneurs. The journey will be
for 15 days, and it will cover about 7000 km of track. It will travel to 11 enterprising cities starting from
Lucknow.
33. SBI to provide lifeline emergency credit to coronavirus-hit borrowers
SBI to provide emergency loans to existing borrowers whose operations are impacted by COVID 19.
Loans to be granted at 7.25% p.a. fixed rate. The ad-hoc loan facility named - COVID 19 Emergency
Credit Line is aimed at meeting temporary liquidity mismatch. Maximum loan that could be availed
under it is Rs 200 crores.
34. India’s forex reserves plunge the most in 8 years as RBI defends the rupee
India’s foreign-exchange reserves plunged the most in about eight years as the central bank stepped in
to defend the rupee. The reserves fell by $5.35 billion to $481.9 billion in the week, That’s the most
since November 2011 when the hoard dropped $5.7 bn. RBI Governor: Shaktikanta Das.
35. RBI opens ₹60,000-crore emergency credit line for Yes Bank
The Reserve Bank has opened an emergency line of credit of around ₹60,000 crore to Yes Bank to meet
any liquidity crisis in paying back its depositors. The move comes after 16 years when a similar credit
line was opened for Global Trust Bank in 2004. Additional liquidity, under Section 17 (4) of the RBI Act.
36. RBI extends restrictions on PMC Bank for three more months
Reserve bank of India extended the regulatory restrictions on Punjab and Maharashtra Cooperative
Bank (PMC) Bank by another three months. The validity of directive dated 23 September 2019, stands

37. RBI chalks out contingency plan for smooth functioning of services
Reserve Bank of India has put in place a contingency plan & shared its BCP to ensure that key
Information Technology (IT) services for the delivery of digital banking, treasury services and cheque
clearance are not disrupted by the coronavirus outbreak. BCP- Business Continuity Plan.
38. RBI to inject additional Rs 30,000 Cr to maintain financial stability in wake of COVID-19
outbreak
RBI decided to infuse additional liquidity with a second tranche of bond purchase worth ₹30,000 crores
amid the Covid-19 pandemic. RBI will conduct purchase of government securities under Open Market
Operations in 2 tranches of Rs 15,000 Cr each in March. RBI Governor- Shaktikanta Das, RBI HQ-

39. RBI advances second tranche of G-Sec buying under OMOs to March 26
RBI has preponed the second tranche of purchase of Rs 15,000 crore of government securities under
open market operations (OMOs) to March 26. The OMO purchase auction was earlier scheduled for
March 30. RBI will buy four government bonds in the auction. Bonds: 8.08% -2022, 7.68% -2023,
7.27% -2026 & 7.17%-2028.
40. SBI commits 0.25% of FY20 annual profit to help fight COVID-19
SBI will provide 0.25% of its annual profit for 2019-20 to fight the coronavirus outbreak in India.

coronavirus outbreak as CSR activity under the company’s law. Entities should give at least 2% of their

41. Karur Vysya Bank launches pre-paid card Enkasu in Karur
Karur Vysya Bank (KVB) has launched Enkasu, a pre-paid card in Karur. In response to the digital
initiative of the Government of India, the bank undertook a Quit Cash Movement in Karur - a movement
to reduce the usage of cash in the district of Karur. Enkasu works on Near Field Communication
Technology.
42. Threshold for default under IBC norms raised from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1 crore
The government may consider suspending section 7, 9 and 10 of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code
for 6 months if the present situation doesn't improve beyond April 30. Threshold for default under IBC
was being raised to Rs 1 crore from Rs 1 lakh earlier. IBC gives time-bound process to resolve
insolvency among firms.
43. On lending by banks to NBFCs, HFCs to be part of priority sector in FY21: RBI
RBI said bank credit to registered NBFCs towards agriculture, MSEs & housing sector up to prescribed
limits will be treated as priority sector loans during the next FY starting April. The move will help boost
credit disbursement in the targeted segments. PSL for bank loans to NBFCs for on-lending for 2020-21
extended.
44. Kotak Mahindra Group launches Kotak Silk Loans for Women
Kotak Mahindra Group has launched Kotak Silk Loans -with attractive rates and special offers across a
range of loan categories especially for women borrowers. Kotak Silk Savings Programme is to empower

45. Cabinet approves recapitalization of RRBs to improve their Capital to Risk Weighted
Assets Ratio
Union Cabinet approved continuation of the process of recapitalization of RRBs by providing minimum
regulatory capital up to 2020-21 for those RRBs which are unable to maintain minimum CRAR of 9%,
as per the regulatory norms prescribed by the Reserve Bank. Rs.670 Cr will be used for the RRBs
Recapitalization scheme.
46. PSBs to extend loans so firms can continue ops and pay salaries
State-run banks have stepped up with emergency funds to help companies continue operations & pay
employee salaries, as corporates seek help to tide over the crisis caused by Covid-19. SBI’s credit line
is up to ₹200 Cr & Indian Bank’s is up to ₹100 Cr. BoB sanctioned an ad hoc limit of ₹200 Cr, UBI- Up
to 50 Cr.
47. Rating Agency Moody's downgrades Indiabulls Housing Finance with negative outlook
International rating agency Moody's downgraded Indiabulls Housing Finance with a negative outlook,
citing challenges in raising funds. It downgraded the corporate family rating (CFR) and foreign-currency
senior secured rating of the company to B3 from B2. It expects the company's asset quality to continue
to weaken.
48. Jana SFB launches UPI QR-based loan instalment payment facility
Jana Small Finance Bank along with NPCI launched a UPI QR-based loan instalment payment facility for
its customers. The move comes at a time when banks are advising their customers to operate
maximum banking services from the safe confines of their home. Payment mode is available for P2P &
P2M payments.
49. IMF projects contraction of global output in 2020 and recovery in 2021
The International Monetary Fund projected a contraction of global output in 2020 and recovery in 2021
as it asked the leaders of the G-20 countries to back a doubling of its USD 50 billion emergency
financing capacity in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Of this, $10-b: Zero interest aid for the
poorest members.
50. SIDBI to provide loans up to Rs 50 lakh to MSEs manufacturing medical supplies to fight
COVID-19
The SIDBI Assistance to Facilitate Emergency (SAFE) response against coronavirus scheme will offer
loans to MSEs at a fixed interest rate of 5 percent and with a maximum loan repayment tenure of five
years for fighting the novel coronavirus COVID-19. Loans are collateral-free & will be sanctioned within
48 hours.

62. ICICI Lombard and BharatPe partner to launch industry-first Coronavirus cover for
shopkeepers
BharatPe has partnered with ICICI Lombard to roll out 'COVID-19 Protection Insurance Cover' for
shopkeepers. This policy on a diagnosis of COVID-19 (+ve) will pay 100% of the sum insured,

63. RBI changes SLBC convenors in view of bank mergers
RBI proposed to change the convenors of State Level Bankers' Committee (SLBC). Following the
merger, PNB will become the SLBC convenor of Delhi. For Tripura and West Bengal too, convenorship
will be transferred to PNB from United Bank of India. MD & CEO Of Punjab National Bank- CH. S. S.

The new SLBC convenor for Andhra Pradesh will be Union Bank of India as Andhra Bank is being
amalgamated with the Mumbai-based lender. Even for Karnataka, Syndicate Bank will transfer the
responsibility to Canara Bank which is going to acquire the former. SLBC came into existence under
Lead Bank Scheme of 1969.

Economy
1. Govt's total receipts at Rs 12.82 lakh Cr in April-January
Government's total receipts during April-January period of current fiscal stood at Rs 12.82 lakh crore,
while total expenditure for the said period was Rs 22.68 lakh crore. Government has received Rs
12,82,857 crore up to January 2020. Tax revenue: Rs 9,98,037 Cr; Non-tax revenue: Rs 2,52,083 Cr.
2. GST collection crosses Rs one lakh crore mark in February
Government has collected over one lakh five thousand crore rupees as Goods and Services Tax in
February this year which is eight percent more than the GST collected in the same month of last year.
Out of the total revenue, CGST is over Rs 20,000 Crores. GST was launched all over India with effect
from 1 July 2017.
3. CSR: SPMCIL contributes Rs 1 Cr to National Sports Development Fund
Under the CSR initiatives, Security Printing & Minting Corporation of India contributed Rs 1 Crore
towards National Sports Development Fund under the Target Olympic Podium Scheme for the top

4. OECD lowers India's FY21 GDP growth to 5.1% on coronavirus concerns
Global agency OECD lowered its India's GDP growth forecast to 5.1 percent from the earlier projection
of 6.2 percent for 2020 on concerns of impact of deadly coronavirus on the domestic as well as the
global economy. Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
5. Govt introduces bill to amend banking laws to protect the interest of small depositors
The Govt introduced a bill which seeks to protect the interest of small depositors by bringing
cooperative banks under the RBI regulations. Introducing the Banking Regulation Amendment Bill, FM
Nirmala Sitharaman said the bill is the ‘need of the hour’. Govt need to avoid a PMC Bank-like crisis in
the future.
6. By FY22, corporate loan defaults may rise by another Rs 2.54 lakh crore: India Ratings
An analysis of the top 500 debt heavy private companies by India Ratings showed that around 16% of
the existing corporate debt is vulnerable. There is a possibility that these loans, worth around Rs 10.52
lakh Cr, could turn bad over the next 3 years. An additional Rs 2.54 lakh crore of delinquent debt can
occur.
7. Trade impact of coronavirus epidemic for India estimated at $348 million: UN report
The trade impact of the coronavirus epidemic for India is estimated to be about $348 million and the
country figures among the top 15 economies most affected as slowdown of manufacturing in China
disrupts world trade, according to a United Nations report. UN Conference on Trade & Development
published the estimates.
8. Cabinet gives nod for FDI policy on civil aviation; NRIs can acquire up to 100% equity in
Air India
The Cabinet approved FDI policy on civil aviation. FDI policy was amended to permit foreign investment
in Air India. Non-Resident Indians can acquire up to 100% equity in Air India under automatic route.
Earlier only 49% were available for sale to NRIs. Civil Aviation Minister- Hardeep Singh Puri.
9. Cabinet gives nod to Companies Second Amendment Bill to enable Indian firms to list on
foreign exchanges
Cabinet approved the Companies Second Amendment Bill, 2019 to amend the Companies Act, 2013.
This will enable the listing of Indian companies on stock exchanges in foreign jurisdictions. It is
expected to increase the competitiveness of Indian companies. Re-categorisation of 23 offences have
been done in the new Bill.
10. Govt pegs 18% lower sugar output to 26.3 MT for 2019-20
The country's total sugar production is estimated to decline by 18% to 27.3 million tonnes in the
ongoing 2019-20 season on fall in sugarcane output in key growing states. Mills have produced 19.48
mt of sugar till February of the marketing year 2019-20. 33.13 mt was achieved in last sugar season
2018-19.
11. IRDAI asks insurance companies to design policies to cover coronavirus
IRDAI has asked insurers to expeditiously settle hospitalisation claims related to novel coronavirus
disease under health policies. All the claims reported under COVID-19 will be thoroughly reviewed by

23. FDI inflows recorded highest ever for fiscal year 2018-19 at USD 62 billion
The total Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflow was over 318 billion US dollars between 2014 and
September 2019 representing nearly 50 percent of the cumulative FDI in India since April 2000. FDI
can be one measure to track the growth of Make in India. The Make in India initiative was launched in
2014.
24. Coronavirus outbreak could cost global economy up to $2 trillion: UNCTAD
The coronavirus outbreak could cost the global economy up to $2 trillion this year, the UN's trade and
development agency said, warning that shock from the epidemic will cause a recession in some
countries and depress global annual growth to below 2.5%. UNCTAD Secretary General- Mukhisa Kituyi.
25. India 2019 thermal coal imports rise 12.6% to nearly 200 million tonnes
India's thermal coal imports rose 12.6% to 200 mn tonnes in 2019, govt data reviewed by Reuters
showed, reflecting the 2nd straight year of growth in shipments of the fuel despite attempts to cut
imports. Coal is among the top 5 imported items in India. Thermal coal is mainly used for power
generation.
26. Measures to prevent coronavirus may dent economic growth by up to 2% points:
Barclays
Amidst rising coronavirus cases in India, Barclays warned that preventive measures like mass
quarantines can dent the already sagging economic growth by as much as 2% points. Barclays
estimates that low crude prices will aid growth by as much as 0.5%. Barclays is a British brokerage
company.
27. Government approves Rs 7,660 crore green highway project in 4 states
Cabinet has approved building 780-km 'green' National Highway project at a cost of Rs 7,660 cr. Project
pertains to rehabilitation & upgradation covering a total length of over 780 km in states of Himachal,

28. Compensation to Be Paid Within 30 Days: New POCSO Rules Comes into Force
Central Govt notified Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Rules, 2020 replacing the earlier 2012
Rules, whereby State Govt shall pay the compensation ordered by the Special Court within 30 days of
receipt of such order CJI: Sharad Arvind Bobde.
29. NSE facilitates single-largest debt issuance by InvIT
National Stock Exchange (NSE) said it has facilitated the single-largest debt issuance of around Rs.
1,675 crores by an infrastructure investment trust (InvIT) on its platform through its electronic bidding
platform MD & CEO NSE: Vikram Limaye.
30. Exports post first rise in 7 months, grow by 2.91% in February
India's exports rose for the first time in 7 months in Feb growing by 2.91% to $27.65 billion, as per
commerce ministry data. Imports grew by 2.48% to $37.5 billion, leaving a trade deficit of $9.85 billion
as against $9.72 billion in Feb 2019 Union Minister of Commerce and Industry: Piyush Goyal.
31. GST rates on mobile phones to increase to 18% from 1st of April
GST Council decided to increase GST rates on mobile phones to 18% from 12% with effect from 1 April.
Council also decided to slash GST on maintenance, repair and overhaul services for aircraft to 5% from
12% & handmade & machine-made matchsticks to 12%. FM Nirmala Sitharaman Chaired the GST
Council meet.
32. New Delhi: FM Nirmala Sitharaman chairs 39th GST Council meeting
The 39th GST Council meeting was held under the Chairmanship of Union Finance Minister Nirmala
Sitharaman in New Delhi. Implementation of the new GST return system, implementation of e-invoicing
& the QR code has been postponed to 1st of October 2020. Present return system will be continued
until September 2020.
33. Goldman cuts Q1 GDP estimate for China, sees 9% contraction vs +2.5% earlier
Goldman Sachs cut its estimate for China's Q1 Gross Domestic Product to a year-on-year contraction of
9% from a previous forecast of 2.5% growth, citing ‘strikingly weak’ economic data in January &
February. It lowered its full-year GDP forecast to 3%. Previous full-year GDP estimate was 5.5%.
34. S&P lowers India's growth forecast to 5.2% in 2020
S&P Global Ratings lowered India's economic growth forecast to 5.2 percent for 2020, saying the global
economy is entering a recession amid the coronavirus pandemic. The agency had earlier projected a
growth rate of 5.7 percent during the 2020 calendar. Forecasts for China and Japan for 2020 are 2.9%
and -1.2%.

35. SEBI proposes to relax rules for 6-month gap between two QIPs by listed firms
Securities and Exchange Board of India proposed to relax the mandatory requirement of a 6-month-gap
between two successive issuances of shares to qualified institutional investors by listed companies
requiring urgent funds if they meet certain conditions. SEBI chairman Ajay Tyagi recently got six-month
extension.
36. Govt to mobilise ₹51,000 Cr more via Treasury-Bills to bridge cash flow mismatch
To bridge a temporary cash flow mismatch, the Government, in consultation with the Reserve Bank of
India, has decided to mobilise Rs 51,000 crore more through auction of Treasury-Bills (T-Bills) during
the remaining period of quarter ending March 2020. Earlier estimated cost of borrowing via T-Bills- Rs
24,000 Cr.
37. Moody’s cuts global shipping industry outlook to negative
The Moody’s Investors Service changed its outlook for the global shipping industry to negative from
stable. It now expects the Earnings Before Interest, Tax, Depreciation & Amortization of rated shipping
companies to decline by around 6% to 10% in 2020. EBITDA growth of 2019 was almost 40%.
38. Moody’s lowers outlook for global base metals industry
Moody's Investors Service lowered its outlook for the global base metals industry to negative on slowing
global growth due to the spread of coronavirus. The revised forecast puts US GDP growth in 2020 at
1.5% and at 2.1% for the G-20 countries overall. GDP forecast of European area- 0.7%, China at 4.8%.
39. 101 Special Economic Zones de-notified between April 2008 and Feb 2020: Govt
The Board of Approval on Special Economic Zones has approved 101 cases of de-notification between
April 1, 2008 & 2020 February 29. SEZ is an area in the country which has more liberal economic laws
than the country’s domestic economic law to expand FDI. SEZ in India is under the ministry of
commerce & industry.
40. 15th Finance Commission constitutes committee to review fiscal consolidation roadmap
15th FC has constituted a committee to review the fiscal consolidation roadmap of the general

FM Nirmala Sitharaman announced that last date for filing of income tax return for the financial year
2018-19 has been extended till 30th June of this year. She said, interest on delayed payment of income

48. Reserve Bank's US treasury holdings touch an all-time high at $164.3 bn

54. Toll collections to decline by 2-3% in FY20: ICRA
Following the lockdown, the Ministry of Road Transportation and Highways has suspended collection of
tolls on all national highways for the 21-day period. Overall, the annual toll collections for FY20 are

59. Economic growth may fall sharply to 2.6 per cent in 2020-21: SBI Ecowrap
India’s economic growth may fall sharply to 2.6% in 2020-21 due to lockdown amid the COVI-19
pandemic, SBI Ecowrap said. GDP growth for 2019-20 could also see a downward revision from 5% to
4.5%, with growth in Q4 of the current financial year at 2.5%. The total cost of lockdown is at least Rs

60. Nomura lowers 2020 GDP growth forecast to -0.5%

In the wake of spurt in cases of coronavirus pandemic in the country, Home Affairs Ministry decided to

Response Fund (SDRF) to fight the pandemic. Outlay should not exceed 25% of SDRF allocation for the
year.

29. Govt to review policy on building near monuments
Ministry of Culture has announced that it is to revisit the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites
and Remains Act, 1958. The Act regulates construction around centrally protected monuments and
classify them based on their historical significance. Act bans construction within 100 m boundary of
secure monuments.
30. Power Generation from Conventional Sources Registered Annual Growth of 5.45% in
2018-19
The total power generation from conventional fuel sources registered a compound annual growth rate of
5.45% from 1.17 billion units in 2015-16 to 1.38 BU in 2018-19. Power generation from hydro sources

As per the gazette notification issued by the labour ministry, Employees’ Provident Fund Organization

dearness allowance from their PF account- whichever is lower. Once subscriber withdraws the amount,
it cannot be replenished.
52. PMO sets up 11 high-level panels to mitigate coronavirus worries
The Union government set up 11 empowered groups to draw up and execute a comprehensive plan to

54. Govt extends validity of vehicle permits till June 30
Centre has extended June 30 the validity of documents like driving licenses, permits etc that expired
since February 1. The decision was taken to facilitate the citizens facing difficulties in renewing the
validity of documents related to the Motor Vehicle. The Motor Vehicles Act-1988 was amended in 2019.

The government has extended the Premium payment period for Postal Life Insurance (PLI) and Rural

57. Direct tax short fall likely to touch a 20 – year high
India’s direct tax collection for the current fiscal year is likely to see a whopping shortfall of about Rs

40. Covid-19: FDA approves use of convalescent plasma to treat critically ill patients
The US Food and Drug Administration has approved the use of plasma from recovered patients to treat

human body.

4. Maharashtra to be single use plastic free by May 1

29. Assam govt sops to tea sector to boost exports: ITA
The Indian Tea Association said the Assam government’s decision to provide orthodox tea subsidy of Rs
7 per kg will boost exports of the beverage. Assam has also allowed interest subvention of 3 per cent
on all term loans and working capital advances. Assam made these announcements in the state budget
for 2020-21.
30. Centre approved for the construction of Delhi-Baghpat highway
NHAI got approval to construct the 1st phase of a new highway that will connect east Delhi’s
Akshardham to Uttarakhand’s Dehradun, a distance of almost 170 Km. The first phase will connect
Akshardham with west Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat, a distance of 32 Km. The existing Delhi-Dehradun
route is 250km long.
31. NDFB disbands itself after 34-year fight to carve Bodoland out of Assam
34 years after it was formed with the aim of carving out a separate Bodoland state from Assam, all the
4 factions of National Democratic Front of Bodoland disbanded themselves. NDFB was formed on
October 3, 1986 under the name of Bodo Security Force. Bodo is the largest tribe in the state.
32. Delimitation commission for J&K, Assam, Manipur, Arunachal & Nagaland formed
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 3 of the Delimitation Act, 2002, the Government
constituted the Delimitation Commission for delimitation of Assembly and Parliamentary constituencies

33. Amul to help J&K dairies scale up their operations

Gram panchayats in Maharashtra will now allow its members to submit their caste validity certificates

35. Maharashtra approves implementation of "happy hour" for autorickshaws
Maharashtra government has approved the implementation of "happy hour" for autorickshaws. A
government resolution states that fares will be slashed by 15% between 12 noon and 4 pm. The

49. Ordinance passed by the Uttar Pradesh Government to recover damages of protests
‘Uttar Pradesh Recovery of Damages to Public & Private Property Ordinance, 2020’ has been passed by
the Uttar Pradesh governor Anandiben Patel even as a recovery exercise to collect damages to public
property during anti-CAA riots is underway in the state. Ordinance aims at dealing with violent acts at
public places.
50. TN plans Rs 250 Cr solar rooftop units and a solar-powered EV charging station
Tamil Nadu announced more than Rs 750 Cr worth of projects that include rooftop solar units,
implementation of prepaid meters and other customer-friendly initiatives for 2020-21. They will set up
50 MW rooftop solar projects at an outlay of Rs 250 Cr. 10-MW wind-solar hybrid project will also be set
up at Kayathar.
51. GMR Hyderabad International Airport goes Single-Use Plastic-free
GMR Hyderabad International Airport has declared itself as a Single-Use Plastic free airport from 1
March 2020 and use of such material has been imposed across the airport. This initiative is in line with

52. Bihar govt declares Coronavirus as epidemic
Bihar declared Coronavirus as an epidemic, giving special powers to deal with the situation. If a
suspected case of COVID-19 refuses isolation, the officers authorized will have powers to forcefully
admit or isolate such person for a period of 14 days. 311 suspected cases have been reported so far in
the state.
53. Ministry of Culture establishes institute to promote Buddhist studies, art, and Culture
Ministry of Culture has established Central Institute of Himalayan Culture Studies (CIHCS) at Dahung,
Arunachal Pradesh. The main objective of CIHCS is to preserve ancient Buddhist manuscripts and to
promote research in different aspects of Buddhism. Digitizing ancient Buddhist text is another aim.
54. Tamil Nadu tops in farm credit disbursals
TN has topped in disbursement of agriculture credit by giving away loans worth Rs 1,63,289 Cr out of a
total of Rs 10,33,183 Cr distributed across India till December 31 this fiscal. Andhra Pradesh & UP were
2nd & 3rd in agricultural credit disbursals. Kerala, which is not a major agricultural State, came fourth.

Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal announced that Banihal to Katra railway link in Jammu and

would link Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country by train. It will create rail from Kanyakumari to
Baramulla.
57. Nirmala Sitharaman presented highest budget for J&K for FY20-21
The government proposed an over Rs. 1.01 lakh Cr Budget for the UT of Jammu and Kashmir for the
2020-21 fiscal, making it the highest ever budget envisaged for the region. Developmental expenditure
is of the order of R. 38,764 Cr, an increase of 27%. Expected revenue receipts are Rs. 91,100 crores.

24. SECI & NTPC to set up 10,000-MW renewable energy parks in Rajasthan
Solar Energy Corporation of India and NTPC will sign an agreement with the Rajasthan government for

Govt has envisaged replacement of all the level crossings on National Highways by Road Over Bridges/

implementing the scheme to ensure safe & smooth flow of traffic. Scheme also aimed at reducing road
fatalities by 50% by 2020.
6. Rs 16,712 Cr loan sanctioned to women under 'Stand Up India' scheme: FinMin
Women account for over 81 per cent of the total beneficiaries under the 'Stand Up India' scheme with
loans worth Rs 16,712 crore sanctioned for them in nearly 4 years’ time, the finance ministry said. The
Stand-Up India scheme was launched on 5 April 2016. International Women's Day is on March 8.
7. Rs 33 Cr for Kaziranga under Project Tiger scheme
Financial assistance to the tune of Rs 1.51 crore has been sanctioned to Kaziranga National Park during
the financial years 2018-19 and 2019-2020 under Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and

13. MSDE launches Mahatma Gandhi National Fellowship programme in Bengaluru
Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Mahendra Nath Pandey launched the Mahatma
Gandhi National Fellowship programme in the IIM, Bengaluru. It is launched as part of the SANKALP
programme of the MSDE ministry to provide skilled manpower. IIMB will train 75 graduates for two
years under this scheme.
14. TIFAC under Ministry of Science and Technology launches Vigyan Jyoti
Technology Information Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC) operating under Ministry of
Science and Technology launched Vigyan Jyoti to encourage women to take science as their career. The
scheme was announced to celebrate International Women’s Day. Vigyan Jyoti was launched to promote
STEM Education among girls.
15. Odisha launches 'Mission Shakti' department for women self-help groups
The Odisha government has cleared a proposal for a separate Mission Shakti department. It would
exclusively work for around 70 lakh rural women associated with nearly six lakh women self-help

Engagement in POSHAN Abhiyaan to Improve Nutritional Indicators”. POSHAN Abhiyaan was launched

17. Mission Zero Accident: SC directs to fix Medical Boxes at all Railway stations & passenger
carrying trains
Supreme Court instructed to provide a Medical Box containing lifesaving medicines, equipment’s,
oxygen cylinder etc. at all Railway stations & passenger carrying trains. Mission Zero Accident was one
of the Missions announced in the Railway Budget 2016-17. UMLC and TCAS are the two sub-missions of
Mission Zero Accident.
18. Govt says Rs 5,275 Cr remains unspent under MPLAD scheme
An amount of Rs 5,275.24 Cr remained unspent under MPLAD scheme as on March 4, 2020. Under the
MPLAD scheme, each MP has the choice to suggest to the District Collector for development works to

19. Rs 1.83 Lakh Cr spent on MNREGA in 2017-2020: Govt
Expenditure under MNREGA almost doubled to Rs 1.83 lakh Cr during 2017-18 to 2019-20 as compared
to 2011-12 to 2013-14 period, the Minister of State for Agriculture Parshottam Rupala said. MNREGA
provides at least 100 days of wage employment in a year. Total number of districts covered under
MNREGA is 691.

vehicles in 2020
The government has set an ambitious target to achieve sales of around 70 lakh hybrid and electric
vehicles by the end of 2020 under the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric
Vehicles in India scheme. FAME India was initiated in 2015. FAME is under the National Electric Mobility
Mission Plan 2020.
21. First ever Indore – Kishangarh flight commenced under UDAN
Under the UDAN scheme, the Ministry of Civil Aviation flagged off the first-ever thrice-weekly flight from
Indore, Madhya Pradesh to Kishangarh, Rajasthan. With the commencement of this route, the Ministry

22. More than Rs 20,000 Cr of loans sanctioned under ‘Stand Up India Scheme’ since
inception
Rs 20,466.94 Crores of loans have been sanctioned under ‘Stand Up India Scheme’ to over 91,000
accounts up to 10.03.2020. The scheme facilitates bank loans between Rs. 10 lakh-Rs. 1 Crores to at
least one SC/ ST borrower & at least one-woman borrower. Stand Up India Scheme was launched on
5th April 2016.
23. 1.59 lakh SSAs covered with at least one bank branch under Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan
Yojana
Under Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), all villages were mapped by banks into 1.59 lakh Sub-
Service Areas with one SSA catering to 1,000 to 1,500 households. This was stated by Anurag Singh
Thakur, Minister of State for Finance & Corporate Affairs. 0.33 lakh SSAs have been covered with bank
branches.
24. 138 distribution camps have been organised under RVY as on March 2020
Department of Social Justice & Empowerment launched a scheme namely ‘Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana’
on 1 April 2017 with the objective to provide the senior citizens, living BPL & suffering from any of age-
related disability with such assisted living devices. The Scheme is implemented through ALIMCO.
25. Premium subsidy sharing pattern between Centre & North Eastern states changed from
50:50 to 90:10: Agriculture Minister
Agriculture minister Narendra Singh Tomar said that the premium subsidy sharing pattern between
Centre & NE States has been changed from 50: 50 to 90:10 for PM- Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana and
Restructured Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme (RWBCIS). For remaining States, subsidy sharing
pattern- 50: 50.
26. Government says Rs 6.16 lakh Cr investment approved under PMAY(U)
An investment of Rs 6.16 lakh Cr has been approved so far under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana
(Urban) & the committed central assistance is Rs 1.65 lakh Cr, Hardeep Singh Puri said. PMAY(U)
provides houses to economically weaker sections in urban areas. He is the Minister of Housing & Urban
Affairs & Civil Aviation.
27. Government announces a production-linked incentive scheme (2) to boost domestic
manufacturing
Govt. announced a production-linked incentive scheme to promote domestic manufacturing of critical
key starting materials (KSMs), drug intermediates and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). PLI
scheme would have a financial implication of ₹6,940 crore. China supplies, 2/3rd of India’s
pharmaceutical raw materials.
28. MPLADS funds may be utilized for COVID-19
Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation issued a circular granting one-time dispensation
for utilizing funds under the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) to
address the challenges in the fight against Coronavirus. It will be used for purchase of equipment’s for
govt hospitals.
29. Cabinet approves extension of Rebate in Taxes on Export of Garments and Made ups
Cabinet chaired by PM Modi has given its approval for continuation of Rebate of State & Central Taxes &
Levies (RoSCTL) from 1st April 2020 onward until such time that the scheme is merged with Remission
of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products (RoDTEP). RoSCTL comes under the Ministry of Textiles.
30. Covid-19 treatment to be covered under Ayushman Bharat
The National Health Authority (NHA) has decided to cover Covid-19 treatment of the poorest of the poor
in private hospitals under Ayushman Bharat- the central government’s health insurance scheme for the
deprived, launched on September 2018. NHA expects to cover cost under viral infection packages.
31. Coronavirus: Govt offers Rs 1,500 to women Jan Dhan account holders, free cylinders
under Ujjwala scheme
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced an ex-gratia amount of Rs 500 per month for the next
three months to all the women Jan Dhan account holders to run their households. Around 20 crore such
women account holders will be covered under this scheme. Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana was
launched on 28 August 2014.
32. Govt to transfer Rs 2,000 under PM-KISAN scheme to 8.69 Cr farmers in April 1st week
To provide relief to farmers affected due to the lockdown, government would transfer in the first week
of April the first instalment of Rs 2,000 to each of 8.69 crore beneficiaries under the PM-KISAN scheme.

33. Coronavirus: Govt hikes MGNREGA wages by Rs 2,000 per worker, offers sops to farmers
FM Nirmala Sitharaman announced that the Centre is considering increasing wages under the National
Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005 (MNREGA) by Rs 2,000 per worker. Each person will get 5 kg of
rice or wheat over & above the existing 5 kg being given. The wage will benefit five crore families.
34. MGNREGA wages up about 11%; yet at least 40% lower than minimum wages
The average per day wage rate for unskilled work under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural
Employment Guarantee Scheme will rise 11% from Rs 182 to Rs 202 for the FY 2020-21. The minimum
wages are revised twice a year by the Chief Labour Commissioner. MGNREGA was initially implemented
as NREGA on 2006.

Bimal Julka was sworn in as the new Chief Information Commissioner of the Central Information

14. Media and entertainment sector grew about 9%, says FICCI-EY report
The Indian Media and Entertainment (M&E) sector grew about 9 per cent to reach ₹1.82 trillion ($25.7
billion) in 2019, and, with an annual 10 per cent growth, it is expected to cross ₹2.4 trillion ($34 billion)

22. Methanotrophic Bacteria Culture first time in India
The Agharkar Research Institute of Pune has isolated 45 strains of methanotrophic bacteria. These

1. Dronacharya awardee athletics coach Joginder Singh Saini passes away
Veteran athletics coach & Dronacharya awardee Joginder Singh Saini, who groomed some of India's
finest track & field stars, died at the age of 90 in Patiala due to age related issues. He remained the
chief national athletics coach from the 1970s-90s. Saini became an athletics coach in 1954.
2. Former India hockey star & Olympic bronze medallist Balbir Singh Kullar dies
Former India hockey player Balbir Singh Kullar, who was a part of the 1968 Olympics bronze-winning
team, has died at the age of 77, after suffering a heart attack. He was also a member of the Indian

5. Non-life insurance premium rises 14% to Rs 1.73 lakh Cr during Apr-Feb FY20
Non-life insurance firms reported a 14% increase in the premium collection to Rs 1.73 lakh CR during
April-February this fiscal, according to IRDAI data. 34 non-life insurance companies had collected a total
premium of over Rs 1.52 lakh Cr in 2018-19. Public sector insurance firms witnessed a rise of 11%.
6. IRDAI sets up panel on governance at insurers
Country’s insurance regulator has set up a 16-member committee headed by Pravin Kutumbe to find
ways to improve corporate governance systems of insurers, primarily on making key functions such as
risk management & internal audits independent of each other. It has been asked to submit the report to
IRDAI in 3 months.
7. IRDAI asks insurers to provide 1-month grace period for renewal premium payments
IRDAI asked life insurers to provide customers an additional window of up to 1 month for paying
renewal premiums in view of troubles caused by lockdowns after the COVID-19 outbreak. Board

1. Red pandas are actually two separate species, study finds
Scientists said that they found substantial divergences between the 2 species-Chinese red pandas &
Himalayan red pandas-in 3 genetic markers in an analysis of DNA from 65 of the animals. There are a
total population of roughly 10000 red pandas in the wild. Red pandas are mammals that dwell in Asia’s
high forests.
2. Coronavirus: Nasa images show China pollution clear amid slowdown
Satellite images have shown a dramatic decline in pollution levels over China, which is ‘at least partly’
due to an economic slowdown prompted by the corona virus, US space agency NASA says. It comes
amid record declines in the China's factory activity. NASA compared the 1st two months of 2019 with
2020.
3. Global coalition for biodiversity launched on World Wildlife Day
On 2020 March 3, on the side-lines of the World Wildlife Day celebrations, Global Coalition for

National Chambal sanctuary has been declared as an eco-sensitive zone by the central government. The

5. Tribal affairs ministry constitutes committee on CFR guidelines under FRA
The Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs has brought back the Model Guidelines for Conservation,
Management and sustainable use of Community Forest Resources (CFR Guideline) under the Forest
Rights Act, 2006 (FRA), four years after it went into cold storage. NC Saxena heads the committee on
CFR guidelines.
6. Black carbon levels spike at Himalayan glaciers
Black carbon concentrations near the Gangotri glacier rose 400 times in summer due to forest fires and
stubble burning from agricultural waste, and triggered glacial melt, says a study by scientists at the
Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology (WIHG). Monthly mean concentration was found to be minimum
in August.
7. Over 40% environment-related crimes in Rajasthan during 2014-16: CAG
A total of 40.59% of the crimes related to environment in the country were committed in Rajasthan
during 2014-16, according to the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report. The crimes were
mostly related to violation of the Forest (Conservation) Act. No. of environmental crimes registered in
the country: 15,723.
8. Sanitary Napkin Disposal Bags to be made mandatory from 2021: Prakash Javedekar
Centre instructed the sanitary napkin companies to provide bio-degradable disposal bags from January
2020. Prakash Javadekar said cleanliness norms in force in municipal areas will now be applicable to

9. 32 lakh saplings planted so far under ‘Green J&K’ program
J&K Forest Department, under the ‘Green J&K’ program, from its given target of 1 Cr saplings, has so

enhancing the green cover across the country. Total of 50 lakhs will be planted by the end of March.
10. World’s only female white giraffe and her calf killed by poachers in Kenya
Conservationist stated that poachers had killed Kenya’s only female white Giraffe and her calf. They are
rare animals that aren't found anywhere else in the world. Now, only one white Giraffe, a lone male
borne by the same slaughtered female, is alive. GCF is involved in giraffe conservation initiatives.
11. Amazon rainforest may collapse within decades if critical point is reached: Study
Large ecosystems, such as Amazon rain forest, may disappear alarmingly quickly, once a critical point
in their destruction is reached, according to a study, published in the journal Nature Communications

15. Cabinet approves Minimum Support Price for Copra for 2020 season
The MSP for Fair Average Quality of milling copra has been increased to Rs. 9,960 /quintal for 2020
season from Rs. 9,521 /quintal in 2019 & the MSP for ball copra has been increased to Rs. 10,300
/quintal for 2020 season from Rs. 9,920 /quintal in 2019. This will accrue benefit of Rs 439/quintal in
the milling copra.
16. Skull of smallest known Dinosaur found in 99-Million-Year Old Amber
Scientists have discovered a new species of bird-like dinosaur from a skull trapped in amber.
Researchers describe a tiny, bird-like skull discovered in approximately 99-mn-yr-old amber from
northern Myanmar. Skull of the specimen is only 7.1 mm in length. Bee hummingbird – the smallest
living bird.
17. Protecting peatlands can help attain climate goals: FAO report
In accordance with the FAO of the United Nations report, Peatlands are facing degradation and need to
