BACKGROUND OF RESEARCH

Port Dickson has many interesting tourist spots and its main attraction is the beautiful
beaches. (The Star Online, 18 December, 2018). However, since 2010 the beaches have
been reportedly polluted. (Pandang-Pandang , 2010). This situation can affect the
biodiversity of marine alive. The coral reef cannot get enough sunlight caused by the
pollution, hence it will effect the photosynthesis process. Visitor are also to be blamed as
they pick and destroy the coral as they want further damaging the coral. (Cheema, 2015).

The biggest contribution to this pollution is the irresponsible public. They don’t throw
rubbish properly even though dustbins have been provided by the organization. (Pandang-
Pandang, 2010). Other than that, poor drainage system leads to the pollution. The sewage
water from the drain channelled to the beach without properly refined. (Haraqah, 2011). In
addition, the transportation and storage of coal on a specific jetty owned by Keretapi Tanah
Melayu Berhad (KTMB) was linked to the partial cause of the water pollution in Port Dickson.
(Nazarudin, 2018). Last but not least, a land reclamation also can cause the water pollution
in Port Dickson as state government is trying to make the Port Dickson as an attractive
vacation destination for holiday. (The Star Online, 2017).
