Outline from 'Pride and Prejudice' by Jane Austen.

FIRST PARAGRAPH:

In this first paragraph we have to include a brief introduction of the work: kind of text (novel of
manners), title (Pride and Prejudice), author (Jane Austen) and his/her importance in the history
given, the date of composition and publication (1812/1813), circumstances of the composition
(roles in the society), the theme of the text (the coming of a single rich man). Moreover, two brief
quick lines about the context should be also included (industrial revolution).

SECOND PARAGRAPH:

It is important that in this paragraph we develop the historical context (industrial revolution) and the
cultural one (the landed gentry, marriage, and gender roles).

THIRD PARAGRAPH:

We can set up the time order is choronological.

Now, it is essential we establish the structure of the fragment. In this case we can divide the
fragment in three parts.
PART I: includes the whole first paragraph and the second one. Austen mentiones what it is
happening that women are supposed to be dependent of a man and how one single rich man comes
to the town.
PART II: The beginning of the dialogue (lines 7 to 37); Mr. and Ms. Bennet talks about the arrival
of Bingley to the town and if there's a chance in which he will be married with one of their
daughters.
PART III: The last part can be the most important. The role of the women are reflected, beauty is
more important than intelligence (my dear....beauty to think of) and the argument to select the
daughter, showing the importance is to be married for dependence and not for love (when mentions,
Lizzy, Jane and Lydia).

FOURTH, FIFHT AND SIXTH PARAGRAPHS:

The third paragraph for being a simple brief introduction of the analysis needs to be expanded. Each
of these paragraphs will be a develop of the parts mentioned in the third paragraph. Important to
highlight that we can make a comparison between Jane Austen and Mary Wollstonecraft: How
important is the education for Wollstonecraft and Austen? See question II.4. from the previous
analysis.

THE LAST PARAGRAPH

The conclusion: Jane Austen is opening a discussion about marriage, the situation women lived, the
dependence, the breach between men and women, topics that women live nowadays.
