QUESTION ONE:
It is needed to supply a power plant with liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from a
refinery establishment. The most convenient method for suppling this power
plants is via pipe-line.
The following data are available:
The distance between the two terminals is 196 km. The power plant
capacity is 1500 MW. The net elevation between the refinery and the gas power
plant is 0.345 km. The LPG consumption is 320 million cubic standard feet per
MWH. There is one pumping compressor station at the mid of the pipe line. The
pipe line passes through a soil containing Chloride compounds for about 34 km
length. The pipe line crosses 2 valleys and 3 high ways. It is also needed to
establish huge tanks at the power plant site to store LPG enough for at least 5
days in case of any supply problem may occur.
Design the pipe line, compressor booster stations, Storage tanks necessary for
LPG supply. All accessories should be considered such as metering systems,
safety requirements, leakage detectors, cathodic protection system, … etc.

NOTE: Since you are the designer, you have the right to assume
any missing data reasonably.

QUESTION TWO:
Write a report about one of the following topics (at least 6 pages):
1- Pipeline pumping booster house.
2- Refinery cathodic protection.
3- Oil products monitoring and metering system.
4- Heat exchanger design that heat kerosene from room temperature to 83 ⁰C
with a rate of 150 liters per minute.
5- Safety systems at oil and petroleum establishments, (ex: refinery, oil field,
degassing stations, .…etc)
