3.1 Operating of VR-Hammer– Using the PTC VR-Tool

The VR- tool can be used to install various types of VR equipment. The procedure below is for describing the
operation of the VR -Hammer.
Step Description Comments Initials
1. Remove Blind Flange or pipe Company / Wellhead Contractor
work from side outlet. procedure.
2. Put on the correct VR-Hammer The VR-Hammer including
on the VR-Tool. extensions must match the
FMC /Cameron or PTC available length in front of the gate
valve. The required stroke length is
equal to the length from the gate
valve to the end position of the
device to be installed, e.g. the VR-
Hammer.
Tot length= _________mm
3. Rig up the PTC VR Tool Flange The gate valve bolt`s shall have
onto the gate valve and tighten documentation on torque values.
the bolts according to company
procedure. Use correct seal ring The VR tool flanges are produced
between PTC VR Tool Flange according to ISO 10423. See Annex D
and gate valve. table D.1 for reference.
4. Rig up the PTC VR Tool onto
the PTC VR Tool Flange with Check all Set screw`s on tool
correct VR-Hammer mounted.

Note! The set screw in the

threaded collar needs to be
secured to ensure threads are
not backed off while working on
the well!

This nut shall only be fastened

HAND TIGHTEND in order to
reduce misalignment
5. Pressure test against the closed Pressure up to 1.5 x maximum
gate valve according to expected well pressure with water
procedure. Stabilize to see if glycol mix (or oil) for 10 min. Minimum
there are any leaks. test pressure: 1500 psi [100 bar].
(Note max working pressure for the
tool)
6. Connect hoses with manifolds
and gauges to the PTC VR-
Tool. One hose to extend piston
and one to retract piston.
7. Bleed off pressure via vent line Write down number of turns to fully
and count number of turns to open gate valve: ______turns
fully open the gate valve
