Module 8 Designer’s Essay:

How has Your Experience Changed Your Perspective?

Take time to think about the ways design thinking has permeated your brain. Consider
how design thinking has changed your perspective on innovation and creativity. Recall
new ideas, products and services you have come across during this course and the
design thinking questions that came to your mind about them. Then write a 1–2
paragraph reflection responding to:

● · How I will use design thinking skills with colleagues, at school, at work, in my
profession, my field, and my life.

Design thinking draws on logic, imagination, intuition and systemic reasoning to

explore the possibilities of what could be and to create desired outcomes that
benefit the end user (the customer). A design mindset is not problem-focused,
it’s solution-focused and action-oriented. It involves both analysis and
imagination. Design thinking is linked to an improved future and seeks to build
ideas up—unlike critical thinking, which breaks them down.

I chose “ Education” as my design thinking subject, I always thought that

everything wrong with our education system is at the end of the government.
While researching thousands of facts came out in front which was quite
astonishing as well as disappointing. My mind never came across the fact that
there are many factors which contribute and help in the formation of the problem
everyone faces.

Everyone includes government, officers, contractors, workers and as well as

common people. So in the area of the problem which I chose, design thinking
contributed as a solution to the question that, Is this true or there is something
more to it. I asked myself this question when I came across the problem of
uneven and untransparent information. When I began searching for what would
be better for my prototype I came across the fact that the situation is worse than
I think, which was like nothing. The whole scenario or picture is much uglier than
what was portrayed on those numbers and data available on the internet. So,
Overall I would say that Design thinking and all its tools like Empathy, Feedback
and Iteration came in very handy and helpful. As I talked to more people and
interviewed people, it was much easier for me to put myself in their shoes and
learn that what would work out much more effectively the society.

In my experience, when we explore challenges and innovation opportunities by

using a design thinking process, we are much more engaged and energised. The
process also helps us produce higher quality ideas than by being purely
analytical.
